Description

SCA, the nation's leading conservation service organization for young people, is seeking responsible leaders for our exciting Pittsburgh summer program. Crew Leaders will work with urban youth, aged 15-18, performing outdoor work in parks and community settings.

Partners include land management agencies like Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Citiparks, and Allegheny County Parks. SCA specializes in linking youth with meaningful work that might otherwise not be done.

Your SCA crew may:

* Construct and maintain trails through parks and forests
* Improve and conserve wildlife habitats
* Revitalize abandoned urban properties
* Work on a community farm or garden

In addition to supervising service projects, leaders will plan and lead weekly field trips designed to build an ethic of community and environmental stewardship with participants.

Qualifications:

Specific qualifications include experience teaching or working with urban youth, ability to maintain safe, productive and enjoyable work environment, strong interest in working with and mentoring.

To lead a high school crew, you must:

* Be at least 21 years old.
* Be a U.S. citizen.
* Possess a valid driver's license and an MVR that meets SCA standards
* Current CPR and First Aid certifications or willingness to obtain
* Pass a criminal background check that meets SCA Standards.
* Attend Crew Leader Orientation and Work Skills Training June 14-22.

Physical Demands and Work Environment - Applicant must be able to:

* Carry heavy loads up to 40 lbs.
* Use a variety of hand tools
* Hike and work in a variety of weather conditions
* Drive a passenger mini-van and/or SUV in a variety of weather conditions

Salary: $500 per week

Program Dates: **Some crew leaders may lead two 5-week sessions. Mandatory training for those crews will take place in May.

*June 16-July 18, 2008
*July 7- August 15, 2008
*July 21- August 22, 2008
