Amyris is building an integrated renewable products company using breakthrough science and an innovative business model to address some of our planet's most daunting problems. Position Overview:
Amyris is seeking a Pilot Plant Manager to effectively manage a team of 10 engineers and associates in an exciting, fast-paced, technical environment.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe work environment by modeling company safety procedures
- Lead a pilot plant team that distinguishes itself by safe, disciplined, and collaborative operation
- Maintain robust pilot plant policies, practices and protocols
- Manage the pilot plant budget
- Direct the pilot plant team in successful process development, process demonstration, design data generation, and prototype product generation
- Effectively receive technology from and provide useful feedback to the research teams
- Effectively transfer technology to and receive useful feedback from manufacturing teams
- Ensure a safe work environment by modeling company safety procedures
- Effective scheduling of activities to meet customer requirements
- Quantifies operational performance
- Continuously improve the pilot plant in every aspect
Qualifications:
- BS or MS degree in Chemical Engineering or related field with exceptional prior industrial experience
- Experience and superior track record in industrial safety as a priority
- Operational expertise and experience as pilot plant manager and/or area manager (people skills, hiring, training, standard operating procedures, etc)
- Capital project management expertise and experience including field management of subcontractors
- Maintenance expertise and experience, including excellent mechanical and electrical skills; likes to work with and fix machines
- Technology transfer expertise and experience; demonstrated ability to translate technology from R&D into a pilot process and then to transfer on to full-scale manufacturing
- A can-do attitude - motivates the pilot plant team to perform beyond their self-perceived abilities
- Readily available to facility (via phone, email, and including short commute to site)
- Significant fermentation and product recovery experience
- Chemical industry experience a plus
- Multi-lingual English, Spanish, French, or Portuguese a plus
