Description

Public Citizen's Critical Mass Energy and Environment Program was founded by Ralph Nader in 1974 to oppose nuclear power and promote cleaner, safer energy alternatives. In addition to nuclear issues, we work for a wholesome and sustainable food system, defend access to clean and affordable water, and safeguard consumer rights in the energy sector. Our work involves lobbying members of Congress, testifying in Congressional hearings, researching and writing studies, monitoring relevant federal and state agencies, initiating litigation, and working with the press and citizen groups nationwide.

Compensation: $230 per week 

Work Hours: Full time 

Water For All Campaign 

Job Type: Organizing & Research 

Responsibilities: Research and monitor multinational water companies and pertinent government agencies and international financial institutions. Outreach, organizing and education on issues of water privatization, bottled water, and bulk water sales. Assist in preparation of reports, newsletters, action alerts and other educational materials. Some administrative work required. 

Stop Food Irradiation Campaign
Job Type: Organizing & Research 
Responsibilities: Work with staff on special research projects relating to all domestic and international issue areas surrounding food irradiation as well as international issues surrounding agriculture and trade. Assist in education, outreach and organizing on food irradiation. Write short newsletter articles. Assist in developing press lists, updating media database, and organizing press clippings. Some administrative work required. 

Nuclear & Energy Policy
Responsibilities: Work with staff to research industry donations to target Members of Congress. Monitoring congressional activities. Calls to organizations asking them to join the campaign and alerting existing campaign members of opportunities to act. Write short newsletter articles, fact sheets, and materials for the web. Some administrative work required. 

Qualifications for all internships: Strong research (web-based and in a library) and writing skills; good communication skills; some knowledge of the political/policy making process; and non-profit volunteer or related experience. Interns must be self-starters, who are committed to the protection of the environment and consumers. Sense of humor a plus. Must be computer savvy.
