Georgia ForestWatch, the state's only non-profit environmental organization devoted to the protection, preservation and restoration of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests, seeks to hire a new Outreach Director. The position is demanding, inspiring and a great opportunity for someone looking for more than a job, for someone with the passion, skills and desire to make the world a better place.

Direct Supervisor: Executive Director coordinates Outreach Director work priorities, and will choose which tasks to share or delegate entirely to OD.

Responsibilities:

Primary:

  • Help coordinate outreach efforts and services for Georgia ForestWatch members and the public.
  • Work to increase membership and income
  • Help maintain proper liaison with and development of the GFW major donor program.
  • Lead responsibility in conjunction with GFW Board for major annual events.

Other:

  • GFW Literacy: Become familiar with Georgia ForestWatch's organizational and programmatic history and key issues, and integrate those into ongoing communications and relationships with members and the public.
  • Membership: Liaison with GFW members, through use of periodic
  • e-mail alerts, website updates, direct mail, telephone, and personal contact at outings and annual events. Oversee the use of our membership database.
  • Publications: Coordinate quarterly newsletter production with Office Manager support. Coordinate production and distribution of other publications such as brochures, rack cards and calendars. Work with Office Manager on website maintenance and web presence.
  • Speaking Engagements: Assume partial responsibility for speaking engagements and presentations to community groups and potential members.
  • Fundraising: Assume partial responsibility for developing written materials for fundraising campaigns and initiatives, including workplace giving campaigns and event sponsorships.
  • Major Donor Liaison: Assume partial responsibility for direct outreach and appeals to potential major donors and for maintaining liaison with designated donors and key members.
  • Outings Program: Organize and administer public outings such as hikes and snorkelings, etc utilizing those experiences to inspire and educate ForestWatch members and the public.
  • Annual Events: Assist in planning and executing major annual fundraising, membership, educational, and other events.
  • Earned Income: Assist ED and Board of Directors in a proper analysis and planning for expanded earned income.

Qualifications:

  • Facility in communicating with the public, both orally and in writing.
  • Undergraduate college degrees in the areas of communications, marketing, journalism, conservation biology/environmental sciences, community organizing, social change would be desirable.
  • Work experience in nonprofit conservation and or other social change organizations is desirable.
  • Familiarity with general computer technology including Microsoft Word and Excel, database systems, and Adobe In-Design pagination a plus.
  • Flexible hours desirable, to accommodate occasional evening and weekend events.
  • Some vehicle travel required.
  • Good sense of humor, patience and desire to work with people for protecting Georgia's National Forests are highly desired.

Compensation: Full-time salary commensurate with talent and experience. Beginning range 28K-30K, possibly higher depending on experience and education. Generous vacation and holiday benefits. No health insurance at the present time.
