JOB DESCRIPTION
Bay Nature seeks a highly motivated, outgoing, savvy individual to create and sustain a strong network of partnerships with conservation, cultural, and community organizations throughout the Bay Area to expand Bay Nature?s reach and increase its revenues.
While building long-term relationships with local organizations, the Outreach Director will create (and help implement) mutually beneficial programs and partnerships. Examples include discount subscription offers, special events, advertising packages, separately funded sections of the magazine, educational programs, list exchanges, and more. He/she will lead and integrate the active networking efforts of the staff (5 people) to effectively cover the wide and diverse territory of current and potential supporters.

RESPONSIBILITIES ALSO INCLUDE
- Writing the "Ear to the Ground" news column for each issue;
- Generating story ideas based on what?s going on in the community;
- Managing the donor program;
- Assisting with grant research and writing;
- Contributing to team process of shaping the magazine itself.
FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE
The Outreach Director must be eager to participate in community events around the Bay Area, including evening and weekend events, as well as travel locally for meetings and conferences. (Expect to spend 40-50% of time outside of the office.)
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Bay Area conservation and community organizations and issues (ideally through direct participation)
- Prior experience in outreach, fundraising, business development, marketing or sales highly desirable
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities
- Creative and strategic thinking
- Outgoing, mature and self-motivated
- Commitment to experiencing and protecting the natural environment
- Appreciation for flexible hours and community events
- Car and willingness to travel locally
- Basic computer skills (Macintosh)
