Description
Located in beautiful western Washington State, YMCA Camp Colman is a resident camp and conference center with dense evergreen forest, over a mile of beach on Puget Sound and great views of the Olympic Mountains. Join an enthusiastic and creative outdoor environmental education team in learning how to instruct and facilitate school and conference/retreat groups. Internships run either for a period of a few weeks or for the entire season.
Responsibilties: After initial training and observation of instructors' classes and outdoor facilitation (see instructor description), interns will be expected to start teaching some classes and gradually expand their abilities. Assistance with evening and weekend activities expected. Will work closely with Program Director to assist in professional development and gain experience in the field.
Qualifications: Experience with and enthusiasm for working with children; background in natural sciences preferred; positive, committed service oriented attitude; ability to have fun in a fantastic outdoor setting.
Benefits: $190/week plus meals, housing and laundry.Use of camp equipment such as sea kayaks, bicycles, climbing wall, canoes and rowboats. Regular nightly observation of beautiful sunsets and bioluminescence. Direct access to paddling on the Case Inlet and running on the hilly terrain of the Key Peninsula.
