CommonSource is a Tides Center project that promotes sharing as an empowering lifestyle & high impact social change strategy. Shareable Magazine is CommonSource's first program. The organizing program will be the second. Learn more about the magazine here.
Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibility is to design, implement, and scale a pilot organizing program for Shareable Magazine. The goal for the first year is to pilot an organizing program that has the potential to be funded and scaled. The overall goal is to network alternative economy, urban design, and campus leaders in major cities to strengthen the sharing movement.
- Research and evaluate potential organizing models
- Design pilot organizing program with the input of Project Director, stakeholders, and the communities to be organized
- Connect with a diverse set of community and campus leaders to assess needs
- Identify potentials supporters
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers
- Launch pilot
- Refine organizing program based on feedback
- Apply for grants to support continued growth of the network
- Participate in fundraising, administration, and professional development as needed
Qualifications:
- Experience in planning & executing political, campus, or community organizing efforts
- Bachelors degree in sociology, anthropology, urban design, or a related field
- Experience using online tools to organize on the ground efforts
- A demonstrated interest in topics covered by Shareable Magazine
- An experienced social media user
- Excellent people skills
- Keen analytical skills
- Comfortable in an ambiguous, fast-paced startup environment
- Excellent speaking and writing skills
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- A desire to build bridges across race, class, discipline, and cultural lines
- Empathy combined with drive to empower people to help each other
- Willing to travel up to 75% of time
