Position Overview

Ecocert USA announces an immediate opening for Organic Staff Inspector / Auditor. The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct inspections and audits of organic operators for compliance to USDA National Organic Program and other related standards. Ecocert USA is based in Plainfield, Indiana. Remote U.S.-based employment is acceptable. Extensive travel is required.

Principal Duties

  • Review farm, livestock and/or handling system plans in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Plan, prepare, schedule and conduct on-site and remote inspections of applicants and certified operations as assigned.
  • Assess compliance of operations with applicable regulations/standards and report observations.
  • Write reports and communicate inspection results through excellent written and oral communication within established timelines.
  • Evaluate corrective actions submitted by the organic operator to determine if adequate and relevant to inspector findings.
  • Compile, organize and submit documentation and information using technology platforms.
  • Conduct peer evaluations of other inspectors in the field as assigned.
  • Provide training to new inspectors, mentor and evaluate as needed.
  • Travel extensively 50-75% of the time throughout the United States

Qualifications

  • University degree in agriculture or food science, OR extensive farming or processing experience, OR equivalent inspecting or auditing experience for organic, social justice, fair trade, traceability or food safety standards.
  • Knowledge of USDA NOP and related international standards.
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Can work independently and partner with a diverse group of staff and clients with different strengths and skills in a busy work environment.
  • Able to clearly communicate complex technical information in a positive and effective way.
  • Highly self-organized with the ability to prioritize work, managing multiple projects while maintaining quality.
  • Skilled at using Microsoft office software, databases and other information technology.
