Position Overview:

Operations Data Analyst is responsible to create, enhance, and support new or existing operating tools and processes in compliance with the California ISO Tariff, NERC and FERC standards to maintain reliable operation of the California ISO Energy Market and power grid. Partners with Operations Engineers and Market Operations staff, as appropriate.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates and contributes in the design, definition, testing, documentation, implementation, and support of market and real time software applications.
  • Investigates, troubleshoots and/or analyzes a variety of unusual conditions, problems and questions, and provides for t appropriate documentation and reporting.
  • Contributes to formulating projects and developing and/or implementing processes and procedures to Operations applications such as Plant Information Systems (PI) and Energy Management System (EMS) displays.
  • Develops and implements standardized information reports, processes, and controls for new and existing business practices to ensure quality communication of information.
  • Ensures software business rules comply with the California ISO Tariff, NERC and FERC requirements.
  • Provides technical knowledge and business rule support to other departments relating to market and real time operations.
  • Coordinates software changes with other internal departments as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent education, training and experience.
  • Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related technical degree.
  • 2+ years related technical experience.
  • Strong knowledge of database design, structure, and queries.  Knowledge of software tools and programming concepts. 
  • Utility industry experience, MS software applications and database design expertise, and information systems development experience preferred. 
  • Computer programming (Visual Basic, C/C++, Java, PERL, Python, EPCL preferred).  Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment a facilitator and team member. 
  • Must be able to handle a dynamic and changing work environment, and work well independently. 
  • Excellent communication, analytical and troubleshooting skills required. 
  • Must be able to effectively document and convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
