Common Good City Farm (CGCF) is an urban farm and education center growing food for and with low-income residents in Washington, DC and providing educational opportunities for all people that help increase food security, improve health, and contribute to environmental sustainability. Our Mission is to grow food, educate, and help low-income DC community members meet their food needs. Our Vision is to serve as a replicable model of a community-based urban food system.

CGCF's programs provide hands-on training in food production, healthy eating and environmental sustainability. CGCF's presence in a multi-cultural, multi-racial, multi-generational community creates an opportunity for people from all walks of life to spend time learning about healthy food, gaining access to it, and exercising in the process of growing it.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a well-rounded individual who brings strong administrative skills and attention to detail. The Operations Coordinator will join a diverse team of highly committed and talented staff and volunteers. This position requires personal and professional maturity, creativity, and commitment to the vision and mission of Common Good City Farm.

Responsibilities:

The Operations Coordinator manages the office and is responsible for all related administrative duties.

Office/Administrative:

  • Manage office and filing systems, respond to phone and email inquiries, and route messages to appropriate staff
  • Maintain inventory of office supplies, forms, and promotional materials
  • Maintain organizational records, including events attendance, community garden applications, and statistics for reports
  • Check P.O. Box and send mail to Accounting Office
  • Supervise data entry providing training/supervision as necessary to interns or volunteers
  • Maintain contacts database for outreach and fundraising
  • Post job announcements and manage applications
  • Coordinate logistics for meetings and events as needed
  • Draft, edit, and update grant reports, templates and other documents

Communications/IT:

  • Manage/edit website content and social media outreach, keeping content up-to-date and relevant
  • Edit and send monthly e-newsletter
  • Manage public events calendar, booking processes, and promotion
  • Maintain computers, printers, and other office equipment
  • Create and revise promotional materials- brochures, flyers etc.

Business/Accounting: 

  • Process reimbursements, deposits, check advances, and debit card reports weekly
  • Send thank you letters to donors in a timely fashion

Farm Programs:

  • Assist Urban Grower in preparing for and hosting groups of students and adults on the farm as needed
  • Assist Youth Coordinators with administrative tasks and other logistics relating to the LEAF and SYP program
  • Assist with other on-farm events and open houses- tabling etc.

Other tasks may be assigned as they arise.

Qualifications:

  • BA Degree in related field
  • Minimum 2 years experience in office and IT management

Competencies:

  • Must have experience and skills using Drupal 7 and CIVICRM 4
  • Ability to build positive relationships with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to organize and maintain records and daily written reports
  • Ability to manage assets - equipment, labor, etc.
  • Ability to budget and plan ahead
  • Friendly, outgoing demeanor
  • Broad conceptual judgment, initiative and ability to deal with complex issues as well as strong analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to invite feedback and manage change to achieve continuous improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of community food systems, urban sustainability and food security issues a plus

Compensation: This is an entry level position. Medical benefits provided.

Reports to: Executive Director

Start Date: Immediately
