Position Overview:
We seek a creative, Internet-savvy individual to join our successful and rapidly growing online fundraising program. In this writing-intensive position, you will be primarily responsible for translating Earthjustice's legal and legislative responses to environmental threats into compelling communications to our online community in order to generate financial and ideological support for our work.
To be successful in this role you must be a strong, persuasive writer, with prior experience writing for an online audience. Prior experience in direct response marketing is a strong plus.
Responsibilities:
- Identify message themes and topics that can be used to develop compelling solicitations and other online communications. Work in collaboration with program and communications staff to maintain a finger on the pulse of Earthjustice's work.
- Research, write, and edit compelling, productive email solicitations, landing pages, and stewardship messages. Oversee the copy review and approval process.
- Configure email campaigns on the Convio eCRM platform with support from our web team. Coordinate the data requirements for each message with in-house partners.
- Set message performance goals and review results. Develop insights and recommendations that will inform future email efforts and improve the performance of our online program.
- Participate in the collaborative development and implementation of strategies for expanding our online community and converting activists and other list members into engaged donors.
- Assist our donor services team in developing responses to inquiries from donors, activists, and other Earthjustice online list members that result from our online messaging.
- Keep up-to-date on trends and developments in online fundraising and advocacy. Attend periodic industry events and conferences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree and 3+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Superior written communications skills and prior experience writing compelling email and web-based messages.
- Prior experience configuring messages and analyzing response in an eCRM, preferably Convio.
- Strong time management skills and a proven ability to prioritize work in a deadline-driven environment.
- An entrepreneurial attitude and a demonstrated passion for delivering results.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Strong general computer skills. Familiarity with HTML is a plus, but not strictly necessary.

Compensation: We offer a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance and a retirement plan along with 3 weeks paid vacation, 12 holidays per year, and a flexible benefits plan. We are located ½ block from the 19th Street BART station in downtown Oakland, just a few short stops from downtown San Francisco. Note: Earthjustice is exploring opportunities for moving its headquarters to new offices in San Francisco next year
