Reports to: VP of Marketing Department: Marketing & Communications
Earthwatch Institute is an international, non-profit organization that engages people worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment. Earthwatch is dedicated to using the web in innovative ways to achieve its mission. The ideal candidate will have an interest in helping to achieve Earthwatch's mission.
Position Summary:The Earthwatch web site is currently undergoing a visual and functional redesign and will reside within a content management system powered by Kintera (http://www.kintera.com). The Online Communications Manager will use Kintera's tools, working as part of the Marketing & Communications team, to develop plans for a dynamic and entrepreneurial online outreach and marketing program to increase the visibility and effectiveness of the organization.
Responsibilities:
*Kintera SuperUser & main point of contact for web-related marketing
* Work with Marketing and Communications staff to develop and execute an online marketing program
* Coordinate online campaigns for email marketing, fundraising, advertising and outreach
* Effective email address list development and cultivation
* Provide support and technical assistance in online fundraising efforts.
* Work with the Membership and Development departments to improve online member experience and expand the member base
* Plan to increase the number of online My Earthwatch Accounts
* Develop and manage promotional and visibility programs designed to build web traffic such as viral campaigns, online advertising & search engine optimization
* Determine effective placement and links through partnerships & advertising
* Implement and monitor plans, reporting metrics and benchmarks, and performing web analytics
* Develop and execute plans to convert web site visitors to inquiries / members / donors / volunteers
* Work with VP of Marketing to ensure message consistency across all online platforms
* Monitor the design, usability, branding, and content of web pages
* Work with all department heads and international offices to suggest new or updated content
* Provide input on design of web sites and features, and suggest how they can best work to meet marketing goals
* Oversee the maintenance of web sites by managing the Web Coordinator, accommodating designers' schedules, and adhering to campaign deadlines
* Monitor site traffic and feedback, and suggest appropriate design and content changes to promote traffic growth and inquiry conversion
* Stay on top of and adapt new developments in web, online strategies, & Kintera's tools
* Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Skills:
* Bachelor's degree in Marketing or other related field
* 4 - 6 years of work experience
* Past experience with a web-based content management system, Kintera preferred
* Past experience with online advertising, search engine optimization, email marketing
* Computer/Internet savvy; expert in Word applications, Excel, & Powerpoint
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills; superior writing skills
* Web design experience is preferred, with proficiency in HTML/HTML Editor & Photoshop. Quark familiarity is an added bonus.
* General familiarity with/understanding of databases
* Proven ability to develop and drive new initiatives, work cross-departmentally with groups across the organization, oversee projects to completion and measure results
* An analytical thinker who understands the needs of the organization and can suggest creative solutions to achieve objectives
* Strategic thinking with a strong understanding of marketing strategies, practices and techniques
* Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline
* Knowledge of the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors preferred.
Salary range:$43,000 - $48,000 commensurate with experience. Good benefit package.
