Description

The Conservation Law Foundation, New England's environmental advocacy leader since 1966, seeks a Program Assistant to provide administrative, clerical and program support to the programs in the Massachusetts Advocacy Center.

The Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) works to craft effective, long-term solutions to environmental challenges in the fields of ocean conservation, clean energy and climate change, clean water and healthy forests, and urban revitalization. CLF also has two subsidiaries: a non-profit, revenue-generating affiliate, CLF Ventures, Inc. and a for-profit, revenue-generating affiliate, Environmental Insurance Agency. 

The work of the Program Assistant encompasses a mix of providing program support to the Ocean Conservation program and the other programs in the Massachusetts office and back up support for the other operational areas of the Boston Office. 

Essential Functions: 

50% Ocean Conservation Program Support 

* Provide administrative and clerical support to the Program Director, Senior Scientist, Senior Attorney, Campaign Director and other program advocacy staff. 
* Schedule and coordinate meetings and make travel arrangements. 
* Create and maintain legal case files, advocacy, resource and other program files in a way that is consistent with CLF's document management policy.
* Maintain program website pages in partnership with Communications Department.
* Assist advocates in preparing, cite-checking, proofing and filing legal documents in federal and state courts. 
* Photocopy materials as needed.
* Communicate on behalf of program staff over the phone and in writing as assigned. 
* Help prepare for and attend internal and external meetings.
* Conduct legal and program-related research. 
* Provide technical and editorial support to program staff. 
* Gather, synthesize and analyze information as assigned. 
* Draft and assemble memos, letters, reports, proposals and other written materials. 
* Work on special projects as time permits and as assigned. 

40% Massachusetts Advocacy Center Program Support 

* Provide administrative and clerical support to the Massachusetts program advocacy staff.
* Schedule and coordinate meetings and make travel arrangements.
* Create and maintain legal case files, advocacy, resource and other program files in a way that is consistent with CLF's document management policy. 
* Assist advocates in preparing, cite-checking, proofing and filing legal documents in federal and state courts. 
* Photocopy materials as needed.
* Provide technical and editorial support to program staff. 
* Draft and assemble memos, letters, reports, proposals and other written materials. 
* Conduct legal and program-related research. 

10% General CLF and Boston Office Support 

* Serve as back up to other administrative staff by providing administrative support to Boston office staff-at-large during vacations, sick days, etc. 
* Cover front desk during breaks, lunches and at other times as required.
* Contribute to a well-organized and clean office environment by tidying common areas including meeting rooms, library and spaces as conditions demand. 
* Produce CLF News clips periodically. 

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will bring:

* Superior organization skills and attention to detail.
* Strong administrative abilities, with demonstrated capacity to perform a wide range of office functions efficiently.
* Excellent research, analytical, verbal, and writing skills. 
* Experience in a legal environment, ideally in a public interest or advocacy setting. 
* The ability to communicate effectively and work well with a wide range of people in a collaborative fashion, including interns, volunteers, staff, and the general public. 
* Experience and a high degree of proficiency working with the Microsoft Office suite. * Ability to work autonomously and complete projects with limited supervision.
* Demonstrated excellence and sound judgment in stressful circumstances. 
* Confident and professional work style 
* Experience with, and knowledge of, environmental issues and a passion for the environmental mission of CLF
* Strong work ethic coupled with the ability to be flexible in a dynamic work setting. 
* Good sense of humor. 
* Bachelors degree in a related field with 1-3 years of experience.
