Airtricity is a world-leading renewable energy company, developing and operating wind farms in the United States, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Portugal. As an integrated utility, Airtricity is both a generator and supplier of green electricity. The Wind Analysis, Research and Standards (WARS) unit within Airtricity has the key responsibility for quantifying and managing wind resource and forecasting issues.

Position Overview:

This senior position reports to the Group WARS & EQ Manager and will have overall responsibility for Airtricity's North American Wind Analysis, Research and Standards (WARS) Unit.

Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for wind resource measurement and prediction in North America         
  • In close liaison with the Group WARS Manager, develop a coherent and effective North American WARS strategy in support of Airtricity's overall business strategy.         
  • Direct and manage the North American WARS team. Oversee the technical output of the North American WARS team.         
  • Train, develop and conduct career planning for the North American WARS team.         
  • Delivery of WARS outputs to internal clients, including:  
    • Providing early resource assessments and layouts 
    • Delivering high quality datasets of wind measurements from each site suitable for use in a low uncertainty wind resource assessment 
    • Implementing internal safety standards for meteorological masts 
    • Providing internal electricity production estimates and managing subcontracted analyses 
    • Assessing turbine suitability for each site and managing subcontracted analyses 
    • Obtaining bankable site suitability studies from turbine manufacturers 
    • Liaising with turbine manufacturers and financial institutions 
    • Providing technical responsibility for power performance testing 
    • Assessing operational wind farm data 
  • Ensure all North American WARS activities are conducted according to Airtricity safety standards.         
  • Liaise and cooperate with Airtricity North America business units, namely Development, Construction & Operations, and Procurement. Support these business units in meeting their objectives and agree and document division of roles and responsibility.         
  • Communicate the North American WARS deliverables throughout the company.         
  • Conduct and encourage wind and engineering research and development to keep the company in a leading position with respect to technical developments, with a focus on extracting additional value from existing and proposed wind farms.         
  • Develop and implement standards and quality assurance procedures for North American WARS technical activities.         
  • Where applicable, provide detailed management and control of agreed budgets and describe variance when appropriate.         
  • Contribute to the development and management of the Airtricity WARS unit.

Requirements:

A Master's degree in engineering or a relevant physical science; at least five years of post-graduate experience in conducting full wind resource, wind farm energy production and site condition assessments; experience managing a team of technical engineers or analysts; experience in developing standards and software tools for wind resource assessment; experience working in a commercial business environment; high proficiency with standard information technology systems.
