Position Overview

Reporting to the North America Director of Health, Safety & Environmental, the North America Environmental Champion develops and maintains all aspects of Corporate Sustainability and Environmental Regulatory Compliance initiatives. This is a “boots on the ground” position designed to support all locations within North America with their environmental and sustainability obligations.

This position establishes and implements programs to meet current and future corporate sustainability initiatives; maintains and carries out duties associated with environmental management systems (ISO 14001:2015); drives compliance with environmental regulations by working closely with facility leadership and HSE Managers; and manages environmental permit applications and permit maintenance. This position works closely with Group, Corporate and facility HSE, NA Energy Manager, facility leadership, various corporate functions, as well as external agencies and resources.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement efficient systems to track energy and waste consumption (HSEDM) for all NA facilities. Ensure timely and accurate reporting to Milan HSE.
  • Partner with facilities and NA Energy Manager to analyze data and implement waste and energy reduction and cost saving activities.
  • Work with facilities to effectively implement and maintain North America ISO 14001:2015 Certification processes. Serve as Management Representative of Corporate Certificate.
  • Work closely with Milan HSE and Loss Prevention to ensure various energy and sustainability audits are performed in accordance with Group Policy.
  • Collaborate with all NA facilities to ensure timely and compliant environmental permit modifications and renewals activities.
  • Establish streamlined systems to ensure all regulatory sampling, monitoring, record retention, and compliance activities are completed and maintained for each facility.
  • Provide direction and oversight in the development, training, and maintenance of site SPCCP, SWP3, and Pollution Prevention Plans.
  • Assist facilities in preparation of various regulatory reports including waste summary reports; TIER II; TRI Form R; and other annual reports as required.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain NA policies, programs and procedures to ensure compliance with Company and regulatory environmental regulations and best management practices.
  • Act as primary interface regarding investigations and compliance with any issues pertaining to environmental regulatory authorities.
  • Coordinate and manage environmental investigation and remediation of contaminated or potentially contaminated property for closed and open sites, including asbestos abatement activities.
  • Serve as a resource in the authoring, approval process, and distribution of Safety Data Sheets for raw materials manufactured by Prysmian facilities.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • 4-8 years of direct manufacturing environmental and sustainability experience including energy and waste tracking and reduction, permit compliance, procedural development, auditing, and training, preferably with multi-location responsibility.
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal and State Environmental and Safety regulations (EPA, OSHA, DOT).
  • Experience with ISO 14001 Management System implementation and ongoing maintenance.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment; cable manufacturing a plus.
  • Experience with planning and executing site remediation activities.
  • Strong organizational & planning skills.
  • Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with technology such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other standard computer applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (oral & written), able to interact with all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to travel in excess of 50% of the time.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree Environmental Studies, Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, or other related discipline.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Works out of a normal manufacturing environment with standard office equipment available.
  • Will be required to sit, bend, kneel, squat, use keyboard, read, write, and speak fluently.
    Employee will be required to work productively and cooperatively in a high-volume, fast paced, highly pressured environment and be able to respond efficiently and courteously to unanticipated problems and crisis.
  • This role is not typically exposed to adverse environmental conditions except for excessive eye strain
