Description
The Mission of the Forest Park Forever is to restore, maintain and sustain Forest Park as one of America's great urban public parks, for the enjoyment of all ~ now and forever.
Position Overview:
Responsible for ecosystem restoration and adaptive management within the Nature Reserve of Forest Park, St Louis, MO. Habitats include mature oak/hickory forest, restored savanna/prairie ecosystems and the waterways within the areas.
Responsibilities:
- Understand and apply the necessary management techniques to sustain and restore natural communities
- Conduct physical and chemical invasive species control
- Assist with formal training sessions and field days
- Promote natural communities to the general public through programming including school groups, local civic groups, workshops, publications, and special events
- Assist with trail layouts, site markers, and improvements
- Implement wildlife management programs
- Monitor plant and animal communities, management activities, and water quality
- Supervise seasonal and volunteer staff to accomplish management goals
- Develop and use Park GIS maps and information

Desired Capabilities:
- Working knowledge of Missouri forest, prairie, and wetland management
- Knowledge of Missouri flora and fauna identification
- Experience with water quality testing and aquatic ecosystem management
- Experience collecting GIS data to create and manipulate maps using ArcGIS software
- Experience with environmental education
- Familiarity with equipment including chainsaws, tractors, chippers, and various other power equipment
Qualifications Required:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with and Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Ecology, Botany, Zoology, Wildlife, Forestry or related field
- Minimum of 2 years work or volunteer experience in a related field
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook & Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point) and ArcGIS software required
- Knowledge of tools, materials, and practices of grounds maintenance and ability to operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner
Physical/Visual Activities or Demands:
- Ability to exert physical effort for extended periods while performing manual labor in extreme temperatures
- Standing, Walking, Sitting, Stooping or Crouching, Kneeling, Reaching, Talking, and Hearing.
- Ability to frequently move and/or lift up to fifty (50) pounds and carry it a reasonable distance, and occasionally lift and/or move more than eighty (80) pounds
License(s)/Certification(s) Required:
- Valid driver's license.
- Missouri Pesticide Applicator's license or the ability to obtain within 6 months
