National Policy Director

~ Plug In America is a national nonprofit organization that works to accelerate the shift to plug-in vehicles powered by clean, affordable, domestic electricity to reduce our nation's dependence on petroleum and improve the global environment. ~

The organization conceived National Drive Electric Week and has advanced workplace charging by pioneering ride-and-drive events at such leading corporations as Google, Mattel and Paramount Pictures. It developed the world's largest, most dedicated network of plug-in vehicle owners and drivers, many of whom have driven EVs for well over a decade.  

Position Overview

The Policy Director will oversee and implement all aspects of the Plug In America policy program to support various government policies that accelerate the rollout of electric vehicles. 

Responsibilities  

This work will primarily be at the state and federal levels. During the first year, it is expected that the Policy Director's efforts will be focused on California and 3-5 other selected states. This will include the following elements: 

• Working with Plug In America staff, board and supporters to identify locations and initiatives where the organization can have an impact;
• Close collaboration with Plug In America supporters and partner organizations to carry out policy strategies in selected areas; 
• Implementation of action alerts to supporters when required; and
• Representing Plug In America in discussions with government agencies, legislatures, administrations, corporations, and NGOs. 

Qualifications 

The following qualifications are required: 

• B.A. or B.S. degree;
• Familiarity with electric vehicles, climate change and energy policy;
• At least three years experience in legislation or policy advocacy;
• Strong written communication and public speaking skills;
• U.S. citizen or legal resident with right to work in the U.S.; and
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail. 

The following qualification is preferred: 

• Six months experience driving a plug-in vehicle on a regular basis.
