The Mountain Association for Community Economic Development (MACED) is a community economic development business lender and certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that is seeking a small business development associate to help realize the goals of MACED's business development activities in eastern Kentucky. Job Overview:
The Microenterprise Lender will originate, process and provide technical assistance to loan applicants from eligible potential small business borrowers. S/he will assist in managing the portfolio of current loan customers.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Origination:
- Market MACED loan products to small businesses through personal contact, mailings, conference presentations, and other forms of outreach;
- Follow-up on inquiries to MACED;
- Maintain database of inquiries and potential borrowers.
- Underwriting:
- Review the organizational, financial and project data provided by loan applicants;
- Analyze data to determine the applicant's capacity to assume and repay debt;
- Prepare and present loan proposals and recommendations for review by MACED staff and/or Loan Committee;
- Close and document loans in consultation with appropriate staff members and legal counsel.
- Portfolio Management:
- Maintain accurate files of current loans in MACED database;
- Follow-up with borrowers who have not submitted required reports or whose reports demonstrate signs of weakness or deterioration;
- Develop work-out strategies with borrowers who become delinquent or default on payment;
- Prepare materials for portfolio review meetings.
- Other Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance to borrowers including financial management systems implementation and business planning assistance;
- Work with the business development team on special projects as required.
Job Skills:
- Bachelor's degree, strong computer skills and strong oral and written communication skills;
- Experience or knowledge in the following areas preferred:
- Small business lending;
- Real estate development;
- Business Analysis and Underwriting;
- Finance or accounting;
- Quickbooks/Peachtree and accounting software.
- Knowledge of community-based organizations and community development funding resources;
- Strong Excel and Access skills;
- One-on-One business training experience;
- Public speaking experience.
- High degree of self-motivation, initiative, dedication and a commitment to the community development mission of MACED;
- Successful candidate will be well-organized, attentive to detail, creative, able to work on multiple projects at once, and able to work successfully on a team with diverse members;
- Close vision with or without corrective lenses necessary for computer work. Manual dexterity needed to operate computer and valid driver's license.
