The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 6,200 corporate and organizational members that is dedicated to promoting environmentally-responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work, is currently seeking an energetic and highly effective individual with experience in sales, member or donor relations to handle strategic recruitment and retention to meet annual national membership goals.
The Membership Manager is a mid-level position that will assist the Director of Community with recruitment and retention initiatives, including identifying and recruiting high-end companies into membership, monitoring member needs, targeting new areas for membership growth, developing, marketing and enhancing the membership value proposition, utilizing the Council's chapter network to optimize all recruitment and retention efforts with the Manager of Community, and developing new member benefits. The Membership Manager will have direct supervision over one other Membership employee.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Plan and implement high-level recruitment efforts.
- Assist in developing 3-5 year strategic Membership Plan.
- Conduct research and analysis as needed to understand trends impacting membership and to integrate information into deliverables.
- Coordinate membership recruitment promotion efforts.
- Develop, market and sell value statements for expansion into particular membership segments.
- Plan and develop strategies to meet membership retention goals.
- Develop and implement new member benefits and services.
- Work cross-functionally to execute campaigns.
- Tie chapters into recruitment efforts.
- Oversee operations and development of industry-specific Member Circles benefit program.
- Assist with developing Member Circle sessions at Greenbuild.
- Manage online store.
- Supervise junior staff.
- Other related tasks as assigned.
- Retain, increase and diversify membership.
- Increase participation of member organizations.
- Grow member capacity and consumer awareness of green building.
- Strengthen effectiveness of USGBC.
- 4-5 years progressive responsibility in sales or member or donor relations.
- Dynamic, results-oriented self-starter.
- Experience launching a significant product/solution offering.
- Mature business judgment
- Demonstrated project management and project measurement skills.
- Staff management experience.
- Ability to develop collaborative relations with diverse individuals, both inside and outside the organization.
- Polished presentation and speaking skills.
- Thrive in demanding environment requiring a high degree of productivity, adaptability, interpersonal communication and follow-through.
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- Bachelors or Masters Degree, preferably in Marketing or Communications; MBA a plus.
- Experience in the building design or construction industry a plus.
