Membership Intern

ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability USA, Inc., a membership association of local governments focused on climate protection and sustainability, seeks a dynamic and talented Membership Intern to be based in our Boston, MA, office.

The mission of ICLEI is to build, serve, and drive a movement of local governments to advance deep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and achieve tangible improvements in local sustainability. Since its inception in 1990, ICLEI has grown to include over 1,000 local government members around the world, more than 550 of which are in the United States. ICLEI staff work closely with these local governments, providing technical expertise, training, software and other tools and critical networking opportunities to help them achieve their climate protection and sustainability goals.

Position Overview: 

The Membership Intern will work with the ICLEI Membership Team in developing resources for local governments to assist them in their climate protection and sustainability initiatives. The Membership Intern will also play a key role in updating and improving the organization's membership data management systems. In addition, the Membership Intern may have the opportunity to support strategic organizational initiatives and other activities of the Membership Team by helping to organize and staff teleconferences and other meetings.

Responsibilities:*

Development of Case Studies & Other Membership Materials:

• In collaboration with other ICLEI staff, identify 10-12 top priorities for case studies demonstrating highly innovative, effective and/or replicable measures taken by local governments to curb greenhouse gas emissions or improve local sustainability.
• Research and write 10-12 case studies.
• Assist the ICLEI Membership and Communications teams in updating sections of ICLEI's website relating to membership and membership benefits.
• Support the development and distribution of ICLEI USA's new suite of membership and promotional materials.

Data Management:

• Spearhead critical updates to organizational database.
• Identify opportunities for improved data tracking and management.

Event and Teleconference Support:

• Help organize and staff teleconference meetings and online workspace for strategic development taskforce comprised of local government representatives.
• Support the planning and preparations for regional events/workshops.

* Actual duties will depend on length of internship and number of hours worked per week

Qualifications:

Successful candidates should exhibit the following:

• Excellent interpersonal, phone and written communication skills;
• Analytical skills, particularly the ability to organize complex information into a highly accessible format;
• Experience working with SalesForce customer relationship management software or other database development or management experience (not required);
• An interest in and/or knowledge of local governments, climate, energy and/or sustainability or other related fields preferred.

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship to be used for experience or college credit only.
