Description

The International Boreal Conservation Campaign is seeking a full-time Media Relations Director. This exciting international environmental campaign works to expand support for protecting Canada's Boreal Forest.

Position Description

The role of the Media Relations Director will be to maximize national and international coverage of Canada's Boreal Forest. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for the International Boreal Conservation Campaign (IBCC) that identifies strategic priorities, approaches, and timelines for maximizing media coverage  
  • Identify and assess opportunities for media coverage for all campaign issue areas and pursue implementation  
  • Work closely with other communications personnel at partner organizations to increase reach and effectiveness of communications efforts  
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with national and international print and broadcast outlets  
  • Oversee work of consultants who are enlisted to support overall communications efforts  
  • Write and edit press releases, op-eds, media backgrounders, and other materials for the media  
  • Expand distribution of press materials and coverage of Boreal Forest issues to a broad audience in the United States, Canada, and Europe

Qualifications

The chosen candidate must possess:

  • Established track record of success in attracting media for international campaigns  
  • Established track record working with a team of media professionals  
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills  
  • High degree of organization and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously  
  • Proficiency in use of excel or database programs  
  • Background in environmental issues (highly preferred)  
  • Enthusiastic and flexible
