Position Overview:

AREVA is seeking to fill a Mechanical Engineer III - Canberra-DES00900 position in Meriden, CT.

The position includes sporadic (10%) domestic travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, layout, test, and evaluation of complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. 
  • Under limited supervision, conduct system design and development, concept layouts, as well as the interpretation and implementation of customer specifications. 
  • Provide assembly, manufacturing, and project management support as well as conduct design reviews and cost/time/risk evaluations.
  • Provide work leadership and training to lower level professional and technical staff. 

Qualifications:

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position. 

  • BSME or BSEE required, MSME or MSEE preferred. BSME/EE with extensive experience can be substituted for advanced degree.
  • 10+ years Systems Design experience, at least a portion of which should include project management responsibilities.
  • Understanding and experience with fabrication/machine shop techniques.
  • Experience in weldments, sheet metal, and plastic components and assemblies.
  • Familiarity 3D Modelling/Inventor/Solidworks skills.
  • Familiarity with finite element modelling/analysis of 3D solid models.
  • Perform classical engineering analysis on designs, conduct engineering stress analysis, fatigue, and vibration analysis using both conventional engineering analysis and through computer simulation software.
  • Produce engineering documents including assembly drawings, installation drawings, service manuals, and engineering test specifications.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Strong technical and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to convey thoughts and understand direction.
  • Initiative and able to work independently and in small groups.
  • Good planning, scheduling, and organization skills.
  • Familiarity with mechanical drive systems: gearboxes, screw, chain, and motors.
  • Ability to sketch concepts in details.
  • The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
  • Nuclear and or Radiation monitoring Systems (RMS) in nuclear power plant experience preferred.
  • Cost estimation and analysis experience.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Engineering Change Order processes and doc management.
  • Working knowledge of SAP business ERP system for bills of material, project management.
