The Ecological Society of America (ESA) is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization of scientists founded in 1915 to:

-promote ecological science by improving communication among ecologists;
-raise the public's level of awareness of the importance of ecological science;
-increase the resources available for the conduct of ecological science; and
-ensure the appropriate use of ecological science in environmental decision making by enhancing communication between the ecological community and policy-makers. 

Ecology is the scientific discipline that is concerned with the relationships between organisms and their past, present, and future environments. These relationships include physiological responses of individuals, structure and dynamics of populations, interactions among species, organization of biological communities, and processing of energy and matter in ecosystems. 

The Ecological Society of America is looking for an energetic hard-working intern, with an excellent phone manner, to help market the Society's newest scientific journal to academic libraries. 

The position involves: 

* Making outbound calls, to describe the journal to librarians and answer questions, * Maintaining a database of libraries and the results of calls, 
* Providing follow-up in the form of letters and sample issues,
* Assisting journal staff as needed, 
* Some internet research to identify new libraries and check contact details. 

Desired background and skills:

* College degree in marketing or public relations/a junior or senior working towards a degree in marketing or public relations,
* A pleasant, outgoing manner,
* Some experience with pitching would be a huge advantage,
* Some interest in the life sciences would also be helpful but is not essential. 

The internship pays $2000 for 3 months, with a moderately flexible schedule. Intern must be able to work a minimum of 20-30 hrs a week. Intern will begin early February.
