Position Details: 

  • Full time (40 hours) work; typically 9 to 5 but with some flexibility if needed
  • Clear room for advancement
  • Position open November 2016
  • Location: our office is in the outdoorsy, college-y, worldly, farmers' market-y, literary mid-sized town of Brattleboro, Vermont
  • Remote work: we strongly prefer onsite collaboration for this position. For the perfect candidate within a 4-hour drive we would consider a remote work arrangement with regular office visits
  • Atmosphere: Our office is professional yet casual. We've hosted meetings with congressmen and major NGOs, but you'll also see bare feet and dogs
  • Team: We have about 15 full-time staff 

Responsibilities 

Campaign development and management duties: 

  • We have a membership-based website and we need your help brainstorming and setting up new lead-generation, acquisition, and renewal opportunities.
  • Update marketing content for the company websites and email campaigns.
  • Update the company’s social media accounts (current focus on Twitter and LinkedIn).
  • Set up, manage, and analyze pay-per-click campaigns and their performance.
  • Manage our growing list of email subscribers in Mailchimp. Create, set up, and send out our weekly newsletter and other email campaigns as necessary. You’ll be in charge of setting creative direction for design improvements, A/B testing, link checking, and overall quality control.  
  • Provide a key point of integration between our website development team and day-to-day marketing efforts, such as key sales pages, analytics, and graphic design.
  • Carry out SEO tactics in collaboration with web and editorial teams. This could involve running site audits, finding and fixing broken links, optimizing meta-descriptions and content, and more.
  • Support creation and implementation of a new branding strategy for both publishing products and consulting services. 

Results tracking: 

  • Set up tracking for marketing efforts, in Woopra and Google Analytics, and share the results internally.
  • Prepare marketing and Web analytics statistics. 

Administrative support: 

  • Support primary and secondary market research efforts.
  • Provide backup to sales manager in communicating with clients. 

The person who succeeds in this position possesses the following skills and attributes. You should be: 

  • Detail-oriented. You have a strong commitment to getting details right in both proofreading copy and data input and management.
  • Software savvy. You have the ability to master new software as the company's marketing and e-commerce systems evolve.
  • A people person. You have strong relationship-building and verbal communication skills. (Extroverts, introverts, and ambiverts can all succeed here.)
  • A marketing guru-in-training. You have a thorough understanding of marketing principles and a commitment to the highest and most effective standards.  

Internet applications and software that you need to be comfortable with (or be prepared to quickly become comfortable with): 

  • Drupal Commerce
  • MailChimp
  • Woopra and Google Analytics
  • SurveyMonkey
  • Google cloud apps and Microsoft office suite, especially Excel 

Qualifications 

The following skills are desirable but not essential: 

  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to collect marketing data, identify problems and opportunities, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of Internet search and SEO.
  • Ability to identify sales prospects.
  • Ability to switch back and forth between "data mode" and "creative mode," as a particular task requires, including spotting trends and elegant solutions while carrying out specific tasks.
