The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 11,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking a program assistant with an interest in and understanding of green building issues. This position will work as an integral member of the LEED Market Development team to assist large customers with the adoption and implementation of the LEED Green Building Rating System across their buildings and portfolios and drive overall activity in the commercial property markets.
Primary responsibilities of the Market Development Assistant include supporting USGBC's Corporate & Investment Real Estate Sector Manager in expanding USGBC's reach with private sector owners and managers. This individual will support the development of resources for customers' use in adopting and implementing LEED across building portfolios, provide customer service to leading private companies, and work on various projects that support market adoption of LEED by for-profit entities.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Answer non-technical phone and email inquiries from the public and professionals related to LEED as it applies to commercial properties.
- Provide account management assistance for Portfolio Program participants
- Assist with the development of sales and communications materials including case studies, slide content information, web pages, fact sheets and other information tailored to specific market sectors.
- Assist in the creation of resources that aid industry professionals in learning about and implementing LEED within their company's real estate portfolios.
- Assist in identifying financial market drivers for private sector adoption, including work with the real estate finance and insurance sectors.
- Provide support to industry advisory group and staff efforts to evaluate LEED in terms of specific private sector space types.
- Assist as needed with LEED Online updates and customer service.
- Provide support as needed to the LEED Customer Service team.
- Other duties as assigned

- Encourage and accelerate global adoption of green building practices through LEED standards, tools and performance criteria.
- Offer a comprehensive portfolio of programs including technical tools and sector-based resources to meet the diverse needs of corporate and institutional building developers, owners and operators.
- Deliver customer service that is professional, timely and targeted to the customer's needs.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelors degree in a related building industry, environmental economics or sustainable business discipline preferred
- Strong skills in customer service, writing, organization, and computers
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to work efficiently and multitask
- 1-2 years relevant professional office experience
- Team player with outstanding interpersonal skills
- Excellent communications skills (both verbal and written)
- Very strong organizational and project management skills
- Passion and understanding for CSR and sustainable business
- Commitment to the USGBC mission.
