Position Overview
ERT is seeking a restoration specialist to provide technical support for NOAA's Great Lakes Habitat Restoration Program.
Responsibilities
- Will support the evaluation, identification, prioritization, design, implementation and monitoring of habitat restoration projects throughout the Great Lakes.
- Will provide technical oversight of the planning, design, implementation, and monitoring of restoration projects, and provide technical assistance, administrative support, and expertise to support NOAA's restoration activities.
- Will maintain and manage specific restoration project data; provide technical, management, and planning support on natural resource damage cases and Great Lakes Restoration Initiative projects; provide oversight of field activities and sub-contractors; and assist in the development of applicable permits and development of appropriate NEPA documentation for environmental compliance.
- Will support the coordination of public meetings, press releases, events, and other outreach activities.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- 2+ years specialized experience that demonstrates knowledge of wetland restoration, fish passage techniques, and the ability to apply ecological principles to habitat restoration.
- Knowledge of biological sciences and techniques pertaining to ecology, freshwater and migratory fisheries, and coastal aquatic habitat.
- Knowledge of the habitats and resources of the Great Lakes.
- Must have the ability to perform field assessment activities to identify and evaluate habitat restoration projects, along with knowledge of federal, state and local regulations related to Great Lakes resources and habitat restoration projects.
- Requires the ability to perform project management tasks including project scheduling, budgeting, project oversight, and ability to handle multiple, concurrent, and competing projects and responsibilities.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be a reliable self-starter that is motivated and shows strong attention to detail.
Other desirable qualifications include:
- Experience with Natural Resources Damage Assessment (NRDA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and Oil Pollution Act (OPA);
- Experience with GIS;
- The ability to work independently, public speaking and technical writing skills and experience;
- Be willing to travel occasionally within the region; and
- Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.
Education:
- BS in coastal or aquatic sciences, fishery biology, ecology, hydrology, water resources, related field or equivalent.
- MS preferred.
