Description

Background:

The Pigeon Key Foundation, located in the Florida Keys, offers residential
marine education programs for groups ranging in age and experience from middle
school to graduate school (average age is 13-14 years old). Visiting groups
choose from more than 15 courses and a variety of off-island events to create a
custom program during their stay with us.

Duties:

For the upcoming spring-summer season (mid-February through mid-July), we will be hiring three interns to help
teach courses and supervise and teach during events. Ideally, we will hire interns
for the entire season, but part-season internships may be possible.

Qualifications:

Required: Science major or recent grad; comfortable speaking in front of groups;
willing and able to learn our marine curriculum; current American Red Cross
lifeguard certification.

Preferred: Rising college juniors and seniors, teaching experience, and solid
knowledge of (marine) biology/ecology.

Compensation:

The intern stipend is $400 per month plus room and board. (But on rare
occasions, when there are no groups on the island, the kitchen will be closed.) If
an intern is not already ARC lifeguard certified and must take a course before
arrival, we will reimburse you for the course fee once you get to Pigeon Key, but
you must be certified before you arrive.

We are also happy to fill out any paperwork necessary for interns to earn college
credit. This internship is also a great way to find a permanent position: for the
past three seasons, 100% of our interns have found placement in paid jobs with
groups that visited Pigeon Key.
