Wisdom Works is seeking a Managing Director to lead, manage and implement the next phase of the organization's growth and development. The Managing Director will report to the CEO,
and will lead the Strategy & Operations Management team which guides the activities of Wisdom Works.

Position Overview:

The Managing Director has primary responsibility for the effective development and implementation of the strategies to grow Wisdom Works and advance the organization's vision and strategy globally.

The Managing Director will be accountable for answering three
questions: What strategies will we use to grow our business sustainably? How will we implement those sustainable growth strategies? Based on these strategies, what will need to shift within our firm?

The Managing Director provides strategic direction to evolve the systems, processes and infrastructure within the organization so that these support sustainable growth. Finally, the Managing Director represents the organization to key external constituents, and ensures and oversees the continuity and quality of relationship management.

Responsibilities:

  • Define, with Partner and Management input, the top-line revenue goals for the short- and long-term health of Wisdom Works, based on the organization's mission, vision and
    values.
  • Deliver on the top-line revenue goals, in a sustainable manner for the organization.
  • Create and implement clear, focused business strategies, which includes (among other things):
    o Working with Wisdom Works Advisory Board, Partners and extended team to gain input
    into the strategies of the company
    o Determining approaches to optimize Wisdom Works' currently-developed products,
    services and insights within the market
    o Determining how to deepen Wisdom Works' presence, relationships and revenue
    generation within business organizations and leadership development practitioners, two
    markets which have a growing need for health, vitality and sustainability tools and
    services.
    o Evolving Wisdom Works' economic model to support the company's growth
    o Creating completely new strategies to advance the vision and success of the firm
  • Determine what the organization needs to look like to achieve the top-line revenue goals. This also involves working with the COO to evolve the implementation of infrastructure
    (practices, processes and systems) for the health, focus and effectiveness of the organization.

    This infrastructure should consistently reflect the values of our firm and will include the following areas: human resources, communication standards and integrity, products and services, sales and account management, client delivery, practitioner
    capacity, finance and legal.

  • Oversee the Strategy & Operations Management team, holding accountable the executives who direct the various strategies and functions plus implement the organization's policies and practices on a day-to-day basis.
  • Work with the CFO to create clear financial plans, strategies and controls to grow the company sustainably.
  • Assist in, as needed, hiring, developing and managing the growing Wisdom Works' staff, with an eye to creating situations in which staff can tap into and apply their strengths and
    deeper motivations.
  • Assist in, as needed, developing and managing relationships with external contractors and vendors.
  • Steward a participative strategic planning process for Wisdom Works and oversee the implementation of the strategic plan (including priorities, budgets, etc.)
  • Represent Wisdom Works and our core mission at selected, high-impact external relationships and situations (i.e. conferences and executive forums.)
  • Hire and work with the Business Development Manager to identify emerging business opportunities and support the Business Development Manager to vet and optimize those
    opportunities.
  • Be a central point of communication and feedback for leaders and staff of Wisdom Works. This is a particularly crucial responsibility given the virtual nature of the Wisdom Works'
    team.
  • Role model the core values of Wisdom Works.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years as a seasoned and senior business leader, from a substantially-sized and global organization, with extensive people, strategic, and operations management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required, with strong preference for an advanced academic degree.
  • Ideally, experience in significantly growing the impact, presence and sustainability of a small, entrepreneurial, values-driven company.
  • Business acumen derived from experience at a senior level, preferably from a corporate environment.
  • Capacity to attract, lead and direct senior level practitioners.
  • Predisposition to identify tough issues and deal with them in a direct and forthright manner.
  • Business development (including sales and marketing).
  • Proven ability to influence and motivate people toward goals using both formal and informal power.
  • Strong analytical, critical, creative and strategic thinking skills.
  • Experience in successfully managing a growing, highly-virtual team.
  • Strong internal and external relationship-building skills. High degree of comfort in working with various types of people, at all levels, in different cultural contexts worldwide.
  • Executive presence; confidence, poise and gravitas.
  • Sophisticated knowledge of the business and leadership landscape, including the significance of vitality, health, wellness, sustainability and like concepts to the workplace, business and diverse global environments.
  • Committed to and actively pursuing personal development and life-long learning.
  • Able and willing to travel as needed. This includes travel "flexibility" - amount and length of travel.
  • Demonstrated leadership, vision and an entrepreneurial spirit for growing a business or business function, with business development background strongly preferred.
  • Strong planning, project management and people management skills.
  • Outstanding writing, editing and public speaking skills.
  • Fluent written and verbal skills in English. Preferably, fluency in a second language.
  • Budget development and oversight experience.
  • A collaborative management style.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
  • Desire to make a global, positive impact through the avenue of business.

Compensation: Compensation for the Managing Director position follows Wisdom Works multi-tiered compensation model, designed to promote well-being and sustainability both for the firm and
its members. It includes: A base salary; Healthy commissions for revenue generation; Employee profit-sharing. Further details about compensation will be furnished upon request.
