Manager, Water and Air Monitoring and Reporting

Duties:

• provide central management and coordination of the province's air quality, water quality and groundwater monitoring programs
• manage the ministry's environmental laboratory services program
• establish strategy, policy and priorities in the delivery of these programs and develop environmental monitoring performance measures and indicators to monitor, audit and report on the state of water quality, groundwater and the atmosphere of the province
• negotiate and manage provincial, federal and private sector monitoring and data sharing agreements to ensure that adequate and consistent monitoring and data management standards, techniques, technologies and practices are implemented throughout British Columbia
• the position is responsible for auditing the performance of ministry and industry monitoring activities as a regulatory requirement

Qualifications:

• Degree from a recognized university, preferably at the Masters level, in science, environmental management, business/public administration, resource economics or a related discipline
• five years related experience
• Degree in a science-oriented field related to water or air management preferred
• related experience includes: experience in developing and maintaining partnerships with other levels of government and/or stakeholder groups; experience in leading and/or facilitating multi-disciplinary teams of technical experts etc
• knowledge of the objectives and direction of the government with regard to the achievement of environmental protection goals and types of environmental monitoring and reporting
• the ability to work effectively with public/private sector and stakeholder leaders and senior management staff and excellent ability to communicate both orally and in writing

• Salary up to $74,376.16
