The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state public agency responsible for promoting transportation and commerce, operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the region including bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, airports, PATH, AirTrain systems, and the NY/NJ seaport.
Position Overview:
The Office of Environmental and Energy Programs is currently seeking a Manager, Sustainability Initiatives. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Environmental Initiatives this position develops and implements policies, provides strategic guidance and technical expertise, and implements programs that add environmental value to Port Authority businesses such as the conservation and efficient use of energy, water and other natural resources, pollution prevention, and mitigation management. The Manager, Sustainability Initiative integrates a metric of environmental performance in evaluation of existing Port Authority operations and future projects.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage Current Sustainability Initiatives, including:
- Carbon Neutral Program: Ongoing project evaluation to ùidentify quality projects; purchases credits and launch public website and calculator
- GHG emissions inventory: Annual data collection. Evaluate new EPA carbon regulations; impacts on PA and reporting requirements.
- Climate Change Adaptation: Active participant in the NYC Climate Change Adaptation Task Force and ClimAid, a NY statewide study on adaptation
- Policy for Sustainable Design: Oversee policy implementation and review monthly Board items to ensure compliance; Provide policy guidance in development of new Sustainable Infrastructure Guidelines
- Green Procurement policy: Work with Procurement to develop a new policy
Develop and implement new sustainability initiatives
Collaborate with Sustainable Design Manager in the Engineering Department. Provide information and direction regarding policies and practices.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
Degree in environmental policy, environmental science, public policy or a related field.
The ideal candidate will present the following qualifications profile:
- 4 or more years experience in sustainable operations and green building
- Familiarity with state (NJ-NY) and federal laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to climate change, air quality, waste, water, energy efficiency and green building. LEED accreditation is desirable.
- Willingness and ability to guide project teams toward optimal sustainability strategies and environmental performance
- Knowledge of water conservation, waste management, air quality, life cycle analyses
- Direct experience with carbon footprint and baseline analyses, project evaluation and cost-benefit analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong time management, organizational and presentation skills
- Excellent written and oral skills
- Ability to work independently as well as closely with other staff members
