Position Overview

We are seeking and individual for a Regular position as a Manager, Renewable Energy in the Customer Service.

The Renewable Energy (RE) Manager will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance, direction and supervision of RENEW staff to ensure successful planning and implementation of renewable energy and sustainability programs and projects for OUC.

This position will also evaluate, monitor and track performance of existing renewable energy and sustainability initiatives in place within the organization. The RE Manager will also provide leadership and coordination to multiple departments within OUC as well as external stakeholders, outside agencies, and vendors on projects and programs associated with renewable energy, alternative fuels and sustainability.

The RE Manager effectively manages staff to complete all aspects of assigned projects and programs including, but not limited to, technical performance, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and client/customer satisfaction. 

Responsibilities  

  • Provide management, direction, and oversight to professional staff on multiple Renewable Energy (RE), alternative fuels and corporate sustainability projects and programs to meet OUC, regulatory, and/or community goals.
  • Serve as manager and decision maker for new projects and programs from conception, business plan development, senior management approval, implementation and testing and post program evaluation. This will include interfacing with multiple business units (PRBU, ENVD, EDBU, SP).
  • Develop and implement the annual OUC Renewable Energy Business Plan and Corporate Sustainability Plan. Responsible and accountable for attaining goals set in these plans.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the budgets for supporting those plans. Ensure resources allocated are sufficient to meet desired goals.
  • Serve as lead grant writer for OUC for funding opportunities in the RE and Sustainability areas. Provide grant administration and reporting as necessary to meet funding requirements.
  • Provide guidance and make recommendations to senior management concerning the formulation and implementation of plans to set and meet both short, mid and long-term goals related to RE, alternative fuels, GHG reduction and sustainability.
  • Contribute technical expertise in evaluation of RE, alternative fuels and sustainability technologies and projects. Provide guidance in ranking RE, alternative fuels and sustainability opportunities.
  • Communicate OUC's renewable energy, alternative fuels and sustainability efforts through speaking engagements, conference presentations, articles, and other marketing communications.
  • Mentor, develop, and provide guidance to assigned Project Managers in all aspects of project management, business development, client management, and project team management.
  • Lead project technical and financial performance reviews for assigned projects in accordance with division financial and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Review state and federal bills as related to RE, provide executive summary and make recommendations for action.
  • Perform on-going industry research and analysis to ensure OUC is cognizant of key trends in RE, GHG and sustainability markets.
  • Serve as the lead contact with all RE, alternative fuels and sustainability organizations, including vendors, academic consortiums, and professional associations.
  • Provide technical and financial information for renewable energy technologies to the Strategic Planning business unit for use in the development of OUC's electric integrated resource plan.
  • Manage and oversee renewable energy and GHG offset market transactions for OUC.
  • Collect and distribute program measurement and verification data to appropriate business units to validate progress toward meeting OUC's goals for renewable energy requirements, sustainability, alternative fuels, and GHG reduction.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, positive direction, goal setting, and give daily supervision to all RENEW departmental staff.
  • Perform other responsibilities on an as-needed basis.
  • Respond to operational problems as needed. Position requires extensive travel between OUC facilities, customers, or other properties. 

Qualifications 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, environmental science, or related field. Advanced degree, such as an MBA, preferred.
  • Extensive working knowledge of multiple renewable energy types required.
  • Minimum of 10 years in utility planning, energy project development, power contracts, policy, environmental, or related fields
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with renewable energy resources, especially biomass and solar.
  • Supervisory experience is required.
  • Ability to effectively work with diverse stakeholders, including regulators, environmentalists, community groups, large businesses and internal utility staff from multiple business units.
  • Must have sound understanding of current residential, commercial, and industrial utility markets, power engineering principles, financial analysis, rates and pricing, federal and state regulatory processes.
  • Must have solid understanding of the RE industry, concepts, and technologies.
  • Must have the ability to effectively manage staff to develop and successfully implement multiple projects and programs at once.
  • Must be a problem solver and comfortable making decisions within the guidelines of policy and budgetary constraints.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word. Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Project are preferred. Oral, written and presentation communication skills for reports, presentations and negotiations.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and organize. Organizational skills to meet numerous deadlines and assignments ahead of schedule.

Compensation: Salary range is $87,840.00 - 142,740.00. OUC offers a competitive compensation & benefits package which includes paid medical program for employee, free life insurance, hybrid retirement package, paid vacation, holidays, and sick time.
