FXFOWLE Architects is an established architectural, interior design, planning, and urban design firm with a single office located in New York City.
Noted for its commitment to sustainable design the firm has been recognized through local, national, and international design excellence awards and feature articles in the most prestigious design publications. The practice encompasses corporate, civic, cultural, educational, transportation, residential, hospitality, office, retail, and mixed-use projects on a variety of scales, from single story to high-rise.
Position Overview:
As part of the firm's long-standing commitment to sustainable design FXFOWLE seeks a Manager of Sustainability (MS).
This will be a senior leadership position that reports directly to the Principals. This individual will further advance the sustainable practice and expertise of an experienced office by coordinating and building upon existing firm-wide sustainability efforts. The MS will oversee Team Green and will work in conjunction with the marketing department as a key addition to the firm's roster of spokespeople.
Duties:
- Leadership
- Support the vision and leadership of the Principals
- Plan, coordinate and supervise the work of Team Green
- Organize and facilitate regular design reviews for projects in each market sector
- Actively participate in the sustainable design process
- Engage project leaders and team members in innovative design solutions
- Advance current research and relationships with corporations developing innovative sustainable technologies in order to collaborate and explore new applications of those technologies in building design.
- Direct a wide variety of sustainable initiatives
- Oversee LEED Certification and staff accreditation
- Internal Communication
- Enhance existing firm-wide expertise on issues related to sustainability including high-performance design, and transit-oriented development and provide recommendations as needed
- Advance organizational knowledge of best practices in sustainability through various efforts including but not limited to research, writing and lectures.
- Coordinate and develop in-house educational programs, including seminars related to sustainable design.
- Ensure all relevant lessons learned from various FXFOWLE projects are communicated throughout the firm.
- Working with the Resource Manager, keep the library up-to-date with the latest books and other reference materials related to sustainability.
- Collaborate with the Resource Manager on product research and dissemination of information.
- Marketing/External Communication:
- Coordinate with Public Relations Manager regarding speaking opportunities.
- Actively engage in public lectures, research, and publication on sustainability issues
- Maintain and develop external contacts
- Act as a liaison to other professional and environmental organizations with an interest in sustainability
- Develop collaborative relationships with potential clients whose strategic goals are aligned with sustainable mission of FXFOWLE.
- Performs other related duties as needed.
- 10+ years of experience planning, designing, facilitating and/or overseeing large-scale, mixed-use projects with a focus on sustainable design.
- History of effective public speaking, research and publication.
- Ability to provide constructive criticism in an engaged and productive manner.
- Professional degrees in city planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, environmental science or a related field.
- Accredited by relevant professional organizations (e.g. AIA, APA, USGBC)
- Strong organizational and management skills with ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an attention to detail and excellent follow through skills
- Software proficiency strongly desired, including AutoCAD, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
