Description

The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 18,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking a green building professional with substantial LEED Rating System experience and expertise to support the management of new LEED programs and their comprehensive technical aspects.

Position Overview: 

The LEED Implementation Manager is an integral member of the LEED Implementation team, under the LEED Resource Development Division, directly reporting to the Director of LEED Implementation.

Primary responsibilities shall include managing rollout support for new LEED programs, rating systems and associated certification processes, while ensuring all technical aspects are rigorous, complete, robust, and clearly defined for LEED customers. Activities may include, but are not limited to overseeing the development of targeted materials, information, workshops and trainings, publications, certification and accreditation adjustments, and volume program impacts.

Responsibilities::

  • LEED Implementation - the following may be relevant to only one or a select group of credit categories and/or rating systems, depending on the employee's background, technical experience and organizational needs:
    • Essential member of the development team that manages the LEED certification submittal development and adaptation processes for volume and one-off programs that help accelerate LEED adoption and remain appropriate for the target market sector, including requirements and forms development for LEED Online v3.
    • Oversee and partake in the development of LEED program-wide customer support materials such as reference guides, supplementary guidance documents, FAQs, and others as needed in response to new rating system releases and program improvements over time.
    • Administer the development of targeted support resources that are essential to key portions of the total market, such as application guides and system requirements.
    • Participate in the precedent-setting CIR assessments, processes and postings once received from LEED Maintenance Team.
  • Cross-over with other Departments
    • Act as liaison to at least one other department within USGBC and/or GBCI in preparation of a new LEED program roll-out; with emphasis on all key features and technical issues addressed, explained and emphasized.
    • Advise Technical Development staff in the development and implementation of LEED rating system credits for one or more LEED market sectors to ensure credit requirements are clear, consistent and user-friendly, while optimizing LEED programs and policies.
    • Consult LEED Maintenance Team in the management of addenda, updates, and substantial modifications and/or additions to reference guides and rating systems in response to stakeholder feedback; facilitate group discussions with stakeholders to develop needed improvements
    • Advise GBCI staff and propose improvements to certification procedures to make the process more efficient and user-friendly, while maintaining program integrity.
    • Consult appropriate staff on Maintenance Team, IT and subcontractors as it relates to program roll-out within LEED Online v3.

  • Provide Council with general technical experience and knowledge as a design, building or development professional.
  • Create tools and methods to facilitate communication among both review and project teams, saving time and using resources most effectively.

Qualifications:

Minimum Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture or Engineering or Environmental Science with minimum of 4 years of professional practice experience in the building industry
  • Technical understanding of and experience achieving compliance with at least one of the following LEED Rating Systems: New Construction and Major Renovations, Schools, Core and Shell, Commercial Interiors and Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance; with a breadth of experience across all LEED Rating Systems
  • In addition to having key technical knowledge and/or documentation experience for one or more LEED credit categories, must have experience with the LEED Online submittal process and/or taking at least 2 LEED projects through completion of certification as a key project team member
  • LEED Accredited Professional
  • General understanding of high performance green building design, construction, or operations, specifically regarding energy analysis, indoor air quality, and material selection
  • Passion for and commitment to USGBC's mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and be an effective team participant
  • Detail-oriented, able to prioritize
  • Position located in the Washington, DC area

Preferred Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant experience in a variety of LEED projects, including large complex buildings and small simple buildings; urban, suburban, and rural settings; owner/occupied and multi-tenant settings; government, corporate, and individual owners, etc.
  • Experience in all LEED project phases, from early visioning to completion of LEED certification
  • Analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills - knowing how much research or exploration of an issue is needed to form an acceptable solution, and which perspectives must be considered
  • Understanding of IT hardware/system architecture and ability to troubleshoot problems
  • Technical writing skills
  • Team-building and supervisory skills
