Position Overview

The Bolingbrook Park District is seeking to hire a Lead Naturalist to work at our Hidden Oaks Nature Center.

Under the supervision of the Environmental Education Manager the Lead Naturalist is responsible for the development, presentation and evaluation of educational and camp programs within the natural areas and at our interpretive facility Hidden Oaks Nature Center.

Hours:

The Lead Naturalist hours will be set by the Environmental Education Manager (between 20-28 hours per week) and will vary by program and may include evenings, overnights, weekends and special events.

Qualifications

Education, Experience & Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or elementary education, natural sciences, interpretation, or related field
  • At least three years’ experience and skills in interpretation or education
  • Must have knowledge and experience pertaining to wildlife, local natural history, and local flora and fauna.
  • Experience with special needs and senior groups desirable
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must maintain CPR/AED and first aid certification or obtain within first 6 months of hire
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) speaking individuals are highly desirable and preferred
  • Must have the ability to create innovative lesson plans and to effectively share and demonstrate information with staff and participants of all ages and backgrounds
  • Working knowledge of Illinois State Standards for LearnerIMRF

Note: This position is required to participate in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF)

Compensation

  • Starting hourly rate is $12.21
