Founded in 1974, Oregon Wild (formerly the Oregon Natural Resources Council or ONRC) has been instrumental in securing permanent legislative protection for some of Oregon's most precious landscapes, including nearly 1.7 million acres of Wilderness, 95,000 acres of forests in Bull Run/Little Sandy watersheds (to safeguard the quality of Portland's water supply) and almost 1,800 miles of Wild and Scenic Rivers.
As a leader in the national grassroots campaign for conservation of roadless areas in our national forests, Oregon Wild helped secure administrative protections for more than 58 million acres of spectacular roadless areas across the country.
Position Overview:
Oregon Wild, one of the Northwest's most accomplished conservation organizations, is seeking qualified candidates for a part time, grassroots organizer position working to build public support for the conservation of the wildlife and wetlands of the Klamath Basin.
This is a 20-hour-a-week position, through October 1, 2013, with the possibility of extension and/or additional hours based on funding.
Responsibilities:
- Responsibilities include preparing and presenting slideshows and PowerPoint presentations at public gatherings;
- Drafting e-mail alerts, background papers, and web-based campaign materials; and
- Growing Oregon Wild's network of grassroots activists.
Qualifcations:
- On-the-ground experience as a grassroots organizer for advocacy campaigns;
- Experience with conservation issues and wildlife protection desired;
- Must possess strong public speaking and writing skills, and the ability to communicate well with diverse audiences; and,
- Must have valid Oregon driver's license and proof of insurance.
