Food & Water Watch is a national consumer advocacy organization fighting for clean, safe, sustainable food and water.
Position Overview:
We seek an IT Manager to function as our web developer and network administrator. The Manager will oversee the IT needs of our growing 60-person organization as we work to redesign our website to increase interaction with our members and supporters. The IT Manager will manage the back end of our CMS (currently Plone), help plan site migration and relaunch, develop custom software applications and help determine which software can best serve up food & water issues. Food & Water Watch is a Mac office. The IT Manager will report to he Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Back end maintenance and enhancement of a number of company websites
- Install and support off-the-shelf and custom-built software applications, and integrate software with other information systems.
- Work with key staff members to assess needs, document requirements, estimate effort, design and develop solutions, and maintain existing software applications.
- Ability to design, build and implement new web applications
- Add creative input to new and existing projects
- Communicate project scope, timeframe and progress to staff
- Work in consultation with contracted developers
- Assist in maintaining and securing web servers and voip phone system
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required Skills:
• College degree required
• Must have 4+ years advanced experience with PHP on medium to large scale successfully deployed projects
• Working knowledge of MySQL
• Must have Linux expertise
• Needs to be comfortable with open source technology
• Comfortable working in Python
• Experience with working with extranets
• Mac-proficient
• Familiarity with Apple
• Solid HTML/CSS coding
• Intermediate JavaScript experience
• Ability to provide a portfolio of prior development work
• Experience with Plone and an interest in developing Plone skils
• Must utilize software development best practices - including design for testability and maintainability, writing clean and robust code, promoting software reuse, sufficient unit tests, documentation, configuration management discipline, and post release maintenance/updates.

• Customer service orientation, capacity to speak geek to lay people, collaborative and enjoys technology for its problem solving potential
• Must be hard working, able to multitask, manage and troubleshoot
• Must be able to communicate effectively
• Possess good time management/organization skills necessary to assist in developing IT processes/procedures and to manage own work queue, perform escalations, and assist in team projects.
• Must have product developer level discipline with respect to design closure, code cleanliness, unit tests, check-in/check-out process, and sensitivity to deployment dependencies, eye on post deployment support issues
