Save Our Canyons (SOC) has a 30-year history of active dedication to protecting the beauty and wilderness of the Wasatch canyons, mountain, and foothills that rise to the east above Salt Lake City, Prove, Ogden and other communities along the western front of this range. Much of the Wasatch is federal land administered by the U. S. Forest Service. SOC has spent the last three decades working with federal, state, county, and municipal government, businesses, and other non-profit organizations to protect this range. It is governed by a volunteer working board of ten, a current staff of three, and about 100 volunteers who give significant support to the board and staff. Our website lists many of the issues that have been the focus of our attention. We have a current membership of about 900.

Duties of Issues/Fundraising Director

Issues Coordinator

Fundraising - Grant Writing

Media Relations

Volunteer Supervision

Event Support

Participant on publications committee

Board Meeting Facilitator

Develop relationships with key players in government, media, fundraising, business, etc.

Facilitate interaction between the SOC Advisory Board and the Board of Trustees.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will be able to bring real dedication to the task of protecting the Wasatch from development, abuse, and creeping urbanization; will have a demonstrated ability at successful fundraising, including grant-writing; be able to work successfully in collaborative efforts, and have excellent communication skills including writing and public speaking. Other skills will include computers, and organizing and motivating volunteers. 3-5 years experience required.

Requirements for staff


Attend monthly board meetings, weekly staff meetings, and prepare
monthly activity report for the Board of Trustees


40 or more hours a week with flexibility for occasional work outside or regular
hours


Agreement to gain board or staff approval for anything written for government
agencies, media, membership, website, or email action alerts


Willingness to accept some intrusion on personal life as part of a job as a
public figure


Become acquainted with the geographic areas of SOC's special concern

Role of Board

Establishes programs and priorities

Participates actively in issues

Is responsible for hiring and firing

Is to be called upon by staff for advice

At least one member of the board is to participate at weekly staff meetings

Members of Board participate actively in SOC''s issues

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Offices at 68 South Main in downtown Salt Lake

Compensation:
Salary is dependent on experience. Health insurance is
provided.
