ISSUES MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST

Position Purpose

The Project Supervisor for Issues Management is part of a team that develops and implements strategies that enable The Home Depot (THD) to proactively address emerging global issues. The Project Supervisor will provide expertise on environmental issues as well as play a role in overall issues management. The person in this role is an advocate to functional areas regarding 'beyond compliance' environmental and social practices and serves as a THD representative at multi-stakeholder dialogues. The Project Supervisor will make policy and communication recommendations regarding environmental issues then work to ensure policies and communications are aligned with operations.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

* Work with Environmental stakeholder groups, such as non-governmental organizations or corporate responsibility organizations, to develop or strengthen THD's relationships, inform public understanding of priority issues, and to represent THD at meetings.
* Work with government relations to develop strategies for pending environmental legislation.
* Conduct research on emerging environmental issues that may affect THD and their likely impact on THD and the industry. Work with issues team to properly prioritize environmental issues.
* Be a resource to other functions regarding environmental issues identified through issues council.
* Participate in cross-functional issue teams Coordinate with Community Affairs program staff to develop programs and solutions around community based issues.
* Leverage opportunities to elevate THD reputation via trade publications, advocacy publications and online forums.

Nature and Scope
* Typically reports to Manager, External Affairs.
* No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the technical leadership of a project work team: may select team members and assess capabilities, provide technical training, provide information necessary to meet work, project or program objectives, evaluate program or project performance.

Environmental Job Requirements
* Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
* Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications
* Must be eighteen years of age or older
* Must pass the Drug Test
* Must pass the Background Check
* Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable

Education Required: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience - 5

Physical Job Requirements: Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications
* Demonstrated ability to achieve goals by working collaboratively with cross-functional, diverse groups.
* Robust conceptual and analytical skills to evaluate broad and complex issues
* 5 years minimum experience related to environmental scanning and policy analysis in either a corporate or consulting setting.
* Strong computer, research and analytic capabilities
* Strong verbal and written communication skills. Bachelor's degree in environmentally related field of study.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
* Experience interacting with senior executives and officials from governments, policy institutes, trade associations, and NGOs.
* Keen understanding of various stakeholder (internal and external) interests and how to best leverage areas of mutual interests to advance solutions and solve problems.
* Ability to educate functional areas on the need to address reputation and business issues comprehensively and responsibly.
