Description
We are a historic, non-profit farmstead nestled in the rolling hills of Southeastern PA, operating a 175 member CSA and significant volume of restaurant sales...new this year "could" be a market opportunity as well.
Position Overview:
Interns will have the unique opportunity to learn all aspects of farming including seeding and transplanting, tomato grafting and trellising, harvesting, and packaging for restaurant sales, as well as gaining an understanding of tractor operations and implements, irrigation, and pest control. Interns will be given responsibilities that enhance their ability to think like a farmer in addition to the opportunity to learn about growing produce commercially. Each intern will have a full knowledge at the end of the season of what it takes to operate a farm on a seasonal basis and have a better understanding if farming is a lifelong venture they want to pursue.
Qualifications:
- Interns with a passion for underserved communities and urban agriculture are encouraged to apply. Experience is beneficial but more important is an openness to learning, working hard, laughing, and being a team worker. Living Hope Farm desires interns with energy and enthusiasm - goals, and a desire to complete a task well and of course must be able to lift 50 #.
- Candidates should be flexible and are able to deal with physically exhausting days and uncooperative weather.
Compensation:
- Separate on site housing, 3 BR, 2 BA, laundry, kitchen - utilities provided
- Wireless internet and 2 bicycles for personal excursions
- Farm produce for daily personal consumption
