Description

This position is based in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

The Program Director of SHI is responsible for the day to day management of the field program, as well as assisting with a variety of other tasks.

The Program Director will travel to programs in Honduras, Panama, Belize and Nicaragua for monitoring, evaluation, reporting, outreach and management purposes.

This work is done within the framework of plans, budgets and programs approved by the Board of Directors.

The position requires extensive travel, especially in Honduras, Panama, Belize, Nicaragua and various parts of the United States.

Ability to perform all duties in Spanish and English is a must.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
" assist field staff in the implementation and use of monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems
" visit and analyze progress of field programs
" provide Board with financial and program reports
" supervise and train field staff
" conduct program and staff reviews
" work with staff to prepare field budgets and plans
" arrange monthly fund transfers to each country program
" complete and continually update the Field Operations Manual
" build and maintain relationships with partner organizations
" maintain close communication with the US-based staff
" use a variety of media to document field program for outreach and fundraising
" supervise volunteers and interns as necessary
" form operational relationships with other organizations providing complimentary services
" assist with fundraising activities, including grant proposals and earned income projects
" other tasks as appropriate

Public Outreach Responsibilities:
" represent and promote SHI at appropriate events
" contribute to creation of public outreach materials
" maintain strong relationships with complementary organizations
" other tasks as appropriate

Planning Responsibilities:
" participate fully in all planning meetings
" work with participants and staff to develop field plans
" conduct individual planning to set daily, weekly and monthly work plans
" other tasks as appropriate

SALARY
The position is based in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The salary will be sufficient for a comfortable living arrangement. Travel expenses to program countries and 1 or 2 trips to the US per year will be covered. Medical insurance will be provided.

EXPERIENCE
This position demands much flexibility and an ability to work in multi-cultural situations. Those with experience working in rural areas in less developed countries, particularly Central America, will be given preference.

NUMBERS
The Program Director works with annual, quarterly and monthly budgets and financial reports. This position is also responsible for monitoring field data for accuracy. Therefore applicants should feel comfortable crunching numbers for these duties.

TECHNOLOGY
Applicants must be able to use email, web browsers, contact and calendar management software, web-based databases, Excel, Word and digital photography products.

Experience in the following a big plus: PageMaker, MS Project, MySQL and PhP. Experience in training persons with little or no computer experience to use programs such as Excel, online databases and Word is a big plus.

DYNAMISM:
This position requires one to be comfortable operating in many different settings and situations. Work settings range from some of the poorest areas of Central America to homes of very wealthy donors in the US. Applicants must be able to cope well with unexpected events and tasks while maintaining basic duties.

As SHI is still relatively young, there are some monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems that still need to be refined and implemented.

TRAINING
SHI will reimburse the new Program Director for travel expenses to Downeast Maine for training at the US office before going to Honduras.
