Position Overview
We are working on building a blue chip company with a world class team of qualified scientific, supply chain, regulatory, QA and Government Relations. The intermediate lawyer will work with all departments overseeing a variety of regulations and compliance issues.
Responsibilities
- Hands on experience providing practical legal advice and business counseling in Canada/US on a wide variety of legal matters, but primarily in the areas of marketing, regulatory, intellectual property, vendor/supply agreements, and commercial agreements
- Regulatory risk identification and advice regarding risk mitigation
- Drafting/reviewing of regulatory submissions
- Managing regulatory compliance and non-compliance matters including FDA regulations
- Oversee the Regulatory Legal Group's Regulatory Management Program
- Participate in ZAG's incident management (e.g. oversee/participate in incident investigation which includes employee relations)
- Support US and Canadian operations, including packaging/labeling reviews, distribution, import/export and customs matters
Qualifications
Skills
- Experience facilitating communication and cooperation with the FDA and other relevant government organizations
- Specifically, experience with FDA and FTC Warning Letters, inspections and investigations, and US Customs product detainment
- Previous experience in leading strategy with federal and state legislators to develop and structure law to the benefit of employer- familiar with policy making
- Experience meeting scientific evidence requirements for safety, and for claim substantiation, while working with outside science firms and contractors
- Experience with review of labeling and advertising /marketing materials, within the context of applicable state and federal statutes/regulations
- Strong understanding of cGMP regulations and practical compliance measures, including the implementation of SOPs and other testing requirements
- Experience working with communications/public relations firms in order to effectively convey the merits of a particular product and/or to change
Requirements
- 3-5 years' legal experience at the bar
- US regulatory framework, decay, and US and Canadian framework, NHPD, etc.
- Trial law experience in areas such as defending manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements in both national product liability litigation and FTC matters such as litigation strategies, the handling of adverse event reports, product recalls, and crisis management issues
- Occasional travel throughout the U.S. to coordinate efforts to keep our plant products legal as well as to meet with our management team and board
- Able and willing relocate to Vancouver, British Columbia
- Continue to network within the legal community
