Description

The position supports the government and industry relations area, conceiving and supervising outside events which directly and positively impact the company's image. Responsible for conducting research and analysis on government regulations that impact the organic industry. Serves as a resource and advocate for the company's producer partners.

Responsibilities: 

*  Actively tracks trade associations and other relevant boards/organizations, synthesizing information and making informed recommendations. Conducts research on issues and provides feedback to Director. 
*  Maintain informed knowledge of industry issues, legislation, and related interest areas to support the company's goals and objectives. 
*  Responsible for the development and execution of key policy events for Congress, industry members, etc. 
*  Prepares speeches, thank you letters, and briefings as necessary 
*  Supports the Director of Government Affairs - may handle scheduling if needed 
*  Researches and analyzes data on federal legislation, regulations, and issues of interest to the Company; uses the information to write "white papers" on which policy decisions are made 
*  Travel and public speaking is required. 
*  Support outreach activities such as events, newsletters, communications, sponsoring etc. 

Position Qualifications: 

A. Education and Experience: 

*  BA/BS in Business, Science, or related field 
*  Excellent writing and research skills are imperative 
*  Strong experience and expertise in written communications and presentation 
*  2-3 years experience in government and industry affairs preferred 
*  Experience in the organic industry ideal 

B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

*  Proven excellence in oral presentation, written expression, and editing; ability to independently assimilate diverse information and material into clear, concise form 
*  Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills 
*  Must be a self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced environment; must have resourcefulness, initiative, creativity - ability to operate independently; ability to achieve goals and objectives while executing multiple project and initiatives 
*  Must have advanced skills with computer use and software including: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel), Internet, Adobe Acrobat
