Position Overview:
What will I be doing?
Canopy is looking for an experienced campaigner who will bring creativity, passion and a strong strategic sense to our innovative and transformative campaigns to safeguard the world's forests and species. The successful candidate will spearhead Canopy's strategic presence in the US, working with large publishers and printers as well as playing a leadership role in shaping Canopy's campaigns to conserve Indonesian rainforests.
Responsibilities:
- Engage large corporate consumers of paper to develop and implement environmental purchasing policies. A focus of this position will be working with large US based publishers, printers and mills.
- Develop and spearhead Canopy's new campaign to conserve Indonesian rainforests.
- Work closely with Canopy team and ENGO allies to secure the conservation outcomes of the Great Bear Rainforest Agreement, the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement and other place-based priority campaigns.
- Support publishers/printers in developing and implementing social marketing strategies and introducing value-added approaches to their business operations.
- Work closely with the Campaign Director and Canopy campaign team on campaign planning and implementation.
- Collaborate with Canopy's communications team and campaigners on joint events and projects.
- Work closely with Canopy's Executive Director and Development Director to develop and implement fundraising initiatives.
- Build a strong regional presence amongst allies, campaign contacts, donors, philanthropic prospects and political influencers
- Contribute to planning of the overall strategic direction of the organization.
- Manage and motivate interns and contractors.
- Manage the day-to-day functions of a regional office and liaise with Operations Director on issues regarding administrative support.
- Work within the regional office annual budget and participate in the budget planning process when needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a campaigner.
- Demonstrated commitment to environmental and/or social justice issues-campaigns.
- Possesses strong analytical skills, an ability to problem solve and excellent written and verbal communication.
- Proven track record for setting and meeting goals and skilled in building strong relationships.
- Demonstrated track record of effective teamwork and coalition building as well as ability to work independently.
- Must be able to inspire and persuade others, particularly in corporate and business environments.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
- Ability to travel and work on weekends and evenings when necessary.
- Familiarity of corporate engagement campaigns and forest conservation an asset.
- Fluency in English is a requirement and fluency in Spanish is a strong asset.
- A good sense of humour always goes a long way.
