Position Overview
Taney Engineering is looking to hire a Hydrologist II - Civil Drainage Engineer for their Las Vegas, NV office.
Responsibilities
At times this position might be assigned design duties by the Project Manager to accurately design the following:
- Grading plans.
- Street and storm drain plans.
- Water and sewer plans.
- To accurately prepare water and sewer calculations.
- To submit and process plans in a timely manner.
- To prepare quantity and cost estimates.
- To collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data.
- To summarize data used in studies, projects, plans, specifications and research.
- To accurately perform mathematical calculations to aid in the selection of alternatives.
- To provide technical and regulatory information.
- To contact local, state, and federal agencies, public and private organizations and individuals to gather and provide information.
- To design, direct development, and recommends solutions to complex hydrological issues with the Senior Technical Hydrologist.
- To translate the ideas, information, and computations relative to plans, maps and charts into diagrammatic form on paper.
- To effectively coordinate with clients, city, utility companies, contractors, and surveyors pertaining to any hydrology issues.
- Works in conjunction with the Hydrologist Level I to ensure hydrology is completed accurately and in a timely fashion.
- The Hydrologist Level II shall coordinate with the Senior Technical Hydrologist and the Project Manager on all difficult issues and come to a resolution.
- To check plans for accuracy and compliance with City standards and general construction practices as appropriate.
- To work in concert with the Project Administrators and other Project Managers and teams.
- To follow the policies and procedures established in the company operating and CAD Standards manual when performing design work.
- Performs any other duties or responsibilities, which will assist in the team running as efficiently as possible or in which the Project Manager deems appropriate.
Qualifications
Skill, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles of hydrology.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of aqueous geochemistry a plus.
- Using analytical and observation skills, which demonstrate the ability to set a course or direction.
- Ability to perform advanced mathematical and statistical analysis to aid in the selection of alternatives.
- Knowledge of design and construction theory and engineering design standards.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, codes, department policies.
- Ability to perform journey level hydrology engineering work.
- Ability to interpret and apply state and local policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations.
- Ability to understand and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
- Ability to deal tactfully deal with clients, engineers, and property owners.
- Possess strong communication skills.
Education:
- Required: BS in Civil Engineering with 6 years of experience with equivalent course work in water resource or relate field.
- Preferred: BS in Civil Engineering and working toward P.E. along with up to ten years of supervisory experience in the areas of water resource.
Experience:
- Three years of increasingly hydrology technical engineering experience in the areas of hydrology for a civil engineering firm.
- Experience in mathematical computations and data analysis.
- Experience with interpretation and application of state and federal laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in a hydrological environment.
- Experience in the use of the current version of AutoCAD not less than 5 years old.
