Position Overview:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Business Development to lead our North American sales team and grow Trucost's rapidly expanding North American business which is growing at 60+%. The role will report directly to the Executive Director who has global responsibilities for business development and marketing.

You will be responsible for developing the North American business development strategy in consultation with the Global Head of Business Development and be responsible for its implementation. You will also work closely with the global heads of marketing, communications and partnerships to develop regionally appropriate strategies and activities in North America and facilitate their implementation.

In addition, you will also have your own sales targets with responsibilities for gaining new customers and accounts as well as the account management of some existing accounts and public speaking and networking responsibilities.

This is a varied role which requires a flexible individual who can work well heading and being part of a team despite operating remotely to Head Office and also be able to work independently. It offers the opportunity for significant travel.

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate would have:

  • A background in business development, preferably in sustainability, and have an established network of sales contacts in North America 
  • Be highly organised, have strong management experience and the ability to coordinate and effectively manage close relationships with colleagues based remotely 
  • Be self-motivated and results oriented, with a positive, "can do" attitude 
  • Excellent business acumen, good negotiation skills and persuasiveness 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence presenting to large groups of people and enjoy networking and meeting new people 
  • A background in sustainability consulting to large corporations, helping them understand natural capital risk in economic terms and embed it in their business strategies 
  • A good understanding of how financial markets operate and a knowledge of some of the following sustainability areas that financial institutions are involved in, such as, mainstreaming ESG integration, UNPRI, SRI, environmental fund creation, environmental risk analysis in different asset classes, sustainability solutions for banking clients. 
  • Knowledge of some of the following environmental issues that companies face would be preferable, such as, environmental measurement and management systems, sustainable supply chains, integrated reporting, carbon accounting and associated commercial software solutions, Life Cycle Analysis and Input-Output modelling techniques. 
  • Preferably, experience working with the government sector on tenders for environmental sustainability projects 
  • An MBA, though not essential 
  • Foreign language skills, particularly Spanish and Portuguese, will be viewed favourably
