Baltimore City is building a coalition of public-private, community based and philanthropic partners to collectively promote a "green collar jobs" workforce plan. With the support of the Annie E. Casey Foundation and our local Workforce Investment Board, Baltimore is moving aggressively to target sustainability as a growth employment sector.
Position Overview
The Baltimore Office of Sustainability is developing a comprehensive Sustainability Plan for the Baltimore community. Indicative of our Office's triple bottom line focus addressing people, planet, and prosperity, job creation and economic opportunities will play a critical role in the Plan. The work of the Green Jobs Intern will be integral to the next phase of developing Baltimore's green jobs program.
General Responsibilities
- Research green jobs initiatives, programs, legislation, and funding outlets
- Work with economic development organizations to identify synergies and opportunities
- Bring together diverse stakeholders (business, labor, government, funding sources)
- Network with organizations and cities doing similar work
- Draft policy proposals
- Present findings and recommendations to officials both inside and outside City government
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of "green" economy
- Adept researcher
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player
- Creative problem-solver that sees possibilities where other may not
- Commitment of at least 15/hours a week
- Desire to make Baltimore a national leader in sustainable economic opportunities
