Immediate job opening.  The Castle Square Tenants Organization is seeking to hire a Green Communitiy Advocate/Organizer.

Castle Square Apartments, a 500 unit multifamily affordable property built in 1960's located in South End, Boston, is in the process of a major deep energy green retrofit renovation.  Once complete, the property will achieve the first in country trailblazing energy savings of 70% that have never been achieved in the country.   

Green improvement include solar hot water, super installation and air sealing, green materials, green landscaping, high efficiency lighting and mechanical systems, and improving indoor air quality.  A new super insulated exterior shell on mid rise buildings transforming it into an architectural asset. 

In addition to green construction improvements, residents and staff at Castle Square are being encouraged to make green lifestyle choices.  The green community organizer will assist in this effort.

Responsibilities: 

Key job tasks:  improving recycle participation by residents and staff, establish a hazardous waste recycling program, verifying CSTO and Management Company are using green cleaning products, hold and attend community, one on one and household meetings to educate population in green practices, verify maintenance shop is using paper products with recycled content and a green certification, develop green welcome package for new residents that describes 10 green practices, write green articles for CSTO and Management Company newsletter, and formal training of residents in green practices at property-wide workshops.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in sustainable design and green practices, ability to maintain the flexibility necessary to adapt, respond, good interpersonal skills and collaborative managment style, bilingual english/cantonese oral and written a plus,  experience in training, curriculum development and teaching, outcome oriented and highly motivated.

Compensation: Salary $15 per hour/20 hours a week.
