Green America's Green Business Network includes the members of the Green America Business Network (GBN) and the Social Investment Forum (SIF). The Green America Business Network (GBN) is the business membership program of Green America.  The mission of GBN is help socially and environmentally responsible businesses emerge and succeed.

Position Overview: 

This position supports the GBN Director and Business Membership Coordinator.   This person will provide workplace assistance and project coordination for the Director including, but not limited to: administrative assistance (scheduling, correspondence, writing/editing, photocopying, filing, research), relationship-building, and oversight of projects initiated by the Director.

The Division Assistant will work with the Business Membership Coordinator on a variety of tasks related to member recruitment, retention of members, coordinating Green Business conference and other tasks as assigned.

The ability to travel 5-10 time per year is required. This position provides staffing at Green Festivals and Green Business Conferences.

We seek someone who is well-organized, able to juggle multiple tasks and who relishes the opportunity to learn about a variety of green issues and membership marketing by working closely with the Director and Business Membership Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

1.  Assistant to Director   (45%):

  • Handle the Director's routine administrative tasks: Open and evaluate the Director's mail and e-mail (as needed); and re-route relevant mail to other staff members or pass onto the Director as appropriate. Carefully prioritize outside communications to capitalize on opportunities while minimizing overload. Become the Directors ‘surrogate' in any and all relationships, projects or activities that the Director delegates.
  • Accomplishing these tasks will require becoming familiar with all aspects of Green America and GBN internally and programmatically, as well as being able to communicate our mission, goals and achievements to members, outside organizations, sponsors, donors, allies, and the general public.
  • Manage the Director's Schedule. Keep track of appointments, book meetings and travel under guidance from the Director.
  • Coordinate travel plans for the Director and other Team members as needed.
  • Assist the Director in her responsibilities for outside Boards and nonprofit working groups.
  • Send Green America materials and information to various events.
  • Participate in GBN meetings, periodic strategic and long-range business planning sessions.
  • Participate with GBN staff in the annual operating plan and budgeting process and monitor monthly expenses and revenues, as needed.

Communications and Media Relations:

  • Assist the Director/GBN staff in writing content for the GBN web site to make it a valuable tool and resource for all members as well as help to build membership.
  • Communicate with members through electronic media and design new communication opportunities as needed.
  • Perform research as needed.
  • Assist the Director/GBN staff in writing and production of Connections e-newsletter - coordinating with technology team.
  • Assist the Director/GBN staff with member communications about Green Festival and Green Business Conference. (also non-members.)
  • Assist in preparation of conference brochures, news releases, fax alerts, and benefits mailings to include all aspects from writing copy to doing the mailings.
  • Monitor the electronic discussion group and participate as required.
  • Monitor the website for requisite updates and necessary corrections.
  • Interact with the media as needed and serve as a Green America spokesperson representing the green/fair trade economy.

2. Assist TO GBN Membership Coordinator (45%):

A. New Member Prospecting and Renewals:

  • Coordinate, print and mail monthly solicit mailing.
  • Assist with printing of membership mailings as needed.
  • Send GBN membership materials upon request.
  • Coordinate and mail quarterly benefit packets to foreign members.
  • Participate in renewal calling as needed.

B. Data Entry (as needed):

  • Do data entry for new members and renewals as needed.
  • Update member addresses when mail is returned (includes locating new contact information when not provided).

C. National Green Pages (NGP):

  • Assist in entering listing updates and answer member questions regarding Member Center.
  • Assist with NGP mailings.
  • Serve on NGP proofing team.

3.  Events (10%):

  • Work with Director to ensure GBN's strategic involvement in events and conferences.
  • Assist in the annual GBN Conference, including program content, communications with speakers, and supervision of outside planning partners.
  • Coordinate materials for conference speakers.
  • Work at the conference as speaker liaison and provide other staffing as needed.
  • Assist in coordination of GBN presence at the Green Festivals, including receptions, and exhibitor outreach.
  • Provide staffing at Green America booth and assist in delivery of GBN exhibitor materials during Green Festivals
  • Travel 5-10 times per year representing GBN. Trips are 3-7 days long. (Required)
  • Attend Green America board meetings as needed.

4.  General Staff Responsibilities:

  • Participate in general staff meetings and the annual Operating Plan process.
  • Attend bi-weekly fulfillment parties.
  • Serve on special teams as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Strong desire to work with and learn about socially and environmentally responsible businesses.
  • Ability to learn quickly, prioritize well and juggle multiple projects.
  • Excellent writing/proofreading and verbal skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel and PowerPoint required)
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and excellent attention to follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently as well as be a team player.
  • Commitment to providing quality membership services.
  • Sense of humor.
  • Bachelors degree preferred.

Compensation:$28,500-30,000 full benefits, 4-day work week. Benefits include medical, dental, vacation, sick days, holidays, 4-day work week (Mon - Thurs), flexible hours.

Supervisor: Green Business Network Director
Position: Full-Time (32 hours per week)
