Seattle is a national leader in sustainability and advancing a green policy agenda. 

Position Overview: 

As the City's program manager for green building, this position supervises a team of 6 professional staff responsible for defining the overall vision and implementation plan for promoting sustainable development within the City.  In managing a program budget of approximately $1.4 million, the Green Building Program Manager must work closely with City departments and Utilities, elected officials, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

In advancing major elements of the Mayor's environmental priorities, the manager will be responsible for developing policies and programs related to green building; implementation of green building initiatives; providing strategic oversight and technical assistance in achieving the City's sustainability goals in complex, high profile development projects; coordinating with other departments to ensure appropriate alignment of policies, codes and business practices with green building goals; and tracking and reporting on program activities and outcomes.

The manager provides advanced technical and policy expertise to City staff, managers and executives, and elected officials.  This position will also require extensive contact with industry and professional organizations, community groups, and non-profits interested in advancing green building at the local, regional and national level. The program manager will frequently make presentations at local, regional, or national forums.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Expertise in sustainability principles and strategies for advancing sustainability goals.
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art green building strategies, benchmarking tools, related codes, and innovative policy concepts.
  • Professional experience in energy efficiency, and/or sustainable design and construction.
  • Supervise, direct and motivate staff.
  • Ability to manage large budgets and workplans.
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary teams and working across departmental lines.
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work with demanding and competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and regional statutes governing growth management, land use, and the environment.
  • LEED® Certification.

Minimum: 

Bachelor's Degree in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, building or construction technology, or related field.  5 to 7 years of progressively responsible experience in managing programs related to the implementation of green building technologies and sustainable environmental policies and practices.
