Job Overview:
Global Green USA is seeking a dynamic, flexible individual with strong technical capabilities in residential energy efficiency to support its Healthy Homes, Smart Neighborhoods Initiative in the Gulf Coast states affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The Green Building Program Associate will lead a project that will provide green building technical assistance to Habitat for Humanity's Operation Home Delivery by supporting local Habitat affiliates to implement construction standards that increase energy efficiency, promote healthy indoor air quality and enhance durability.
Based in Global Green's New Orleans Resource Center, the Program Associate will also lead green building technical assistance projects in the City of New Orleans and support green building policy development advocacy efforts in throughout the Gulf Coast.
Depending on the success of fundraising efforts and pending discussions with the United States Green Building Council, developing an infrastructure to provide LEED for Home certification services may become a key component of the Program Associate's role.
The position will be based in New Orleans and require frequent travel around the Gulf Coast.
Responsibilities:
Habitat for Humanity
- Establish and manage a call center that local Habitat affiliates may call for green building advice
- Visit local Habitat affiliates throughout the Gulf Coast to provide technical support, training and performance testing
- Recruit, and administer, LEED for Homes certification for a small number of local Habitat affiliates
- Contribute to and support Habitat for Humanity International's roll-out of updated Gulf Coast construction standards
- Assist Habitat for Humanity International to develop a "wish list" of green building products and manufactuers who are potential regional or national partners.
New Orleans Resource Center
- Assist Resource Center staff in providing green building technical assistance to projects where Global Green has established partnerships in the City of New Orleans
- Collaborate with the Director of the Resource Center to support green building policy development and advocacy efforts throughout the Gulf Coast
- Staff the New Orleans Resource Center for drop-in consulations in coordination with other Resource Center staff
LEED for Homes
In collaboration with other Global Green staff and the United States Green Building Council, develop an infrastructure to provide LEED for Home certification services in the Gulf Coast region. The level of effort required for this task will depend on the success of fundraising efforts and pending discussions with the United States Green Building Council.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years experience in providing residential energy efficiency and other green building technical assistance.
- A strong understanding of the durability and indoor air quality challenges faced by residential building construction in the Gulf Coast climate is essential.
- Knowledge of HERS protocols and processes for residential Energy Star and LEED certification is highly desireable.
- Experience working with Habitat for Humanity and/or affordable housing developers is a plus, as is demonstrated commitment to sustainability issues.
- Project management experience critical.

- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and to capitalize on new opportunities.
- Experience working in the field with building professionals on green building and energy efficienciy issues and programs.
- Excellent written communication and presentation skills.
- Computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, and powerpoint, and REM/Rate energy modeling software).
- LEED AP and/or HERS Certification highly desired
Compensation:
Compensation based on experience and qualifications. Global Green has commited to funding this full-time position, with a complete benefits package, for 12 months and intends for this position to continue to be staffed for several years. However, renewal of the position will be based on the success of future fundraising efforts.
